Tonight has great promise - Comuzzi fired, a buncha Libs from QC threatening to vote for budget or at least abstain or get the flu. Harper with a crack to Dion that he should care for the soldiers as much as he does for the Taliban detainees. Harper lights Steffi's hair on fire. Dion lights up. Harper sits down.
Starts off with Comuzzi getting the boot - makes Steffi look like he's firing his grandpapa.
Dom Leblanc, Siksay and Kenny chat about Comuzzi on Duff. Nothing to report here. Click.
Jaffar, Dhalla, Cullen et al on Newman talk about Harper's match work on Steffi's head. No fireworks yet. Everyone calls everyone else flipfloppers. Eeeewww that's cruel. They bad.
Don agrees that everybody said that everybody else flipflopped. Consensus achieved.
Ruby refers to her conversations with "stakeholders". You know who the stakeholders are . . . They're the ones who carry the bags for the Libs when they're in power. Cullen looks wildeyed - too much caffeine, Nathan.
Jaffar quotes PMSH on how Dion should have read the budget.
Duff talks about airport insecurity. Blah. Means longer lineups. Click.
Newman on QC election. Maxi Bernier on. He's real good, right on message, which means nothing too interesting - surprised that DN didn't have counterpart on. Don't mind, though. Real nice not to have Judy Washalashlisalees shrieking, though. Bernier throws a dagger to the bulls eye as far as 2/3 voters in QC going for federalists but how the PQ grew when Libs were in. Maxi's bloody good.
Newfoundland ad on Newman - I suffered through those GD ads at least 8 times last week on Air Canada. Where's the rock getting all their money to pay for them? Transferred funds? Makes me wonder, if they got bucks to piss away on TV ads, how can Danny Greenbacks claim to be so poor?
Duff with strategists - Reads NDP sub-amendment on budget complaining about blah, blah, blah and even Duffy calls it blah, blah, blah. Brad rails on about tax cuts in budget - now that's a winner. Did Norquay go blonde while I was away?? Or am I crazy - no need to answer.
Newman on Anti-scab legislation which is pretty heated, between CFIB guy and Cdn Labour Congress hack but this dog don't hunt.
Back to Duff - question on QC Lib MPs - Don Moors describes consensus while Geoff slams Steffi for splitting his own party.
All day long the NDP (in QP and on the shows) have been slamming the Libs. What's up?
Lemon's give your head a shake - if the Drippers don't get some Lib votes they're dead as a doornail - they HAVE to go hard at the Grits to survive.
Duff is on Anti-Scab Leg. Redux.
Travers on Newman on NDP sub-amendment on blah, blah, blah. Only the NDP voted for their own bafflegab.
Got onto the hair lighting incident. Travers lack of decorum. How about a lack of nonpartisanship. They review the history of PMSH rudeness.
Duff with his press hacks... They beat up PMSH on his hair lighting too. Fife reports that Grits will support minimum penalties on gun crime - real interesting - Steffi might support - Talk about Flippers!!
Newman brings up Kelowna Accord private members bill - wow - that passed me by - what happens if this goes through?? Would be a $5B spend...
All in all, a disappointing day. No secrets revealed, but some real ideas for soon to be written blogs.
It's a fish wrap.

Al Gore Windbag "The Planet Has a Fever"
"The Planet has a fever, all right, Albert. And you're a mayor symptom."
Al sort of looks like a fever blister himself in this piece...
This is evidently his Goresome's 20th year of harping on Global Warming. Which sounds impressive until you think back and realize that 30 years ago the main hue and cry was about Global Cooling. So if you do the simple math, THANK GOD, twenty years ago we started a period of warming, otherwise we'd be freezing our asses off today. Actually, I'm freezing my ass off today anyway. They promised us +7 today and we got +1. If they can't predict 12 hours in advance . . .
No need to actually watch this - just look at how red and tubby the Goreity is...
Maybe he's the planet that he's worried about having a fever.

American Idol Sucks
Okay, I promised my last ever post on American Idol a month or two ago. I lied.
I've been an Idol junky for years. Ruben. Fantasia. Carey. Taylor. All my early choices and all winners. Even went to a live show (and brought my little girl as a rationale).
Can't get off it. Tried talent show methadone equivalents to work it off (So you Think You Can Dance, Grease, Dance with the Stars) None of them worked. Tried Cold Turkey, but I always came back.
But this collection of pathetic losers has cleansed my veins of any desire to ever again self inject these two hours of misery.
Not one person on this show would have made a final 10 in any other year. Not one, from any single performance or any collection of performances. They're horrible, worse than my HS talent contests.
Simon isn't even any fun, cause it's too easy for him to find fault. He's just showing up cause he's got a big piece and it's cancellation will reduce his black tee shirt allowance.

Evening Lemons Report Newman and Duff - March 20
Back after a week sunbathing with Newman and Duffy on the French Riviera...
Both led with "the fallout" from the federal budget (do they share caption writers?)
Learned from Duff that at least one Liberal is gonna support the budget- will see how tough Steffi really is on this one, because it's a confidence motion, the Libs are opposing and a vote for it is a vote against Dion.
Newman reveals Charest wasted no time touting the new transfer to his credit. He will lower taxes - quick - cancel the cheque, Steve. If they don't need the money why give it to them?? Ohhhh, It's about the Election, Stupid.
Duff leads off with Ralphie Hedgehog and Libby who whined about not getting any more money for their provinces but dont make note that they dont need any more money (especially Sask which is bleeding people and have a lower need for services funding every day at the same time that resource revs are revving and before you write nasty notes I'm an ex-pat Saskabusher).
Support of the NDP, Libby? Why the Hell would PMSH ever need or want the support of the feckless and generally overall useless, dickless and drying up quick dripping oil dippers??
Duff chat with les pundits Montrealais - reveals power of the budget in Quebec - clear winner supported by all three party leaders there.
John Williamson from CTPF, of course, against the higher spending and lack of big enough tax cuts - I agree - the Liberals would have promised to spend more and tax less, but they'd never get around to doing it. These CPCs are pesky - keeping promises the way they do. Damn them. Williamson praises Chretien - quick - get the crashcart. "Elithabeth, I'm comin home baby, I feel the big one comin on..." (Tribute to Redd)
Gerry Nicholls from PMSH's old posse, the NCC, criticizes budget (who else they gonna vote for??) Tasha Keirrhden young conservative writer supportive says it's a political winner - says the basis is good conservative (not libertarian) policy. Good point.
O'Connor under fire for Red Cross Afstan detainee bollocks on Newman - was a screw up but the worst thing that would happen to them is better than living in caves with Usama's pals and herds of goats, for chrissie's sake. These are our bloody enemies priase Allah (SBUH). Coderre and the NDP Peace Activist get to fire bullets without CPC response. Denis Dogood manages to squeeze in a "we support the troops". NDP Peacenik is so outright outraged that her hair is messy, so far hasn't been able to slip in a "we support the troops". Forgot, NDPers don't fix their hair - that's a capitalist thing that no self respecting socialist would ever do.
Joe Comuzzi announces on Duffy that at least he (if not a bunch of Quebecers) is supporting the government on the budget. Comuzzi blocks Duff cam - dont look for him back.
The strategists are on Duff who quotes CD Howe Institute on Provincial transfers "$190 Billion sunk in a bottomless pit of ingratitude". Good stuff, Duff.
McPhail and Bernie, both laud budget and Marie Poulin continues to look like a puffed up parakeet - says nothing except that PMSH thinks that Canadians can be bought (puhleeze, this from a Liberal?) Bernie catches Steffi on his denial that the Fiscal Imbalance existed. Para Poulin babbles about future investments in productivity (she's a waste of air time - Ralphie is more to the point and he's a blunt instrument). Ends with a mini hissy fit between Joy and Para Poulin. Para says something about how we are in the same family and can disagree and Macphail with a glint in her eye has the last word "that's ridiculous".
Got the "Wouldn't That Be Nice" ad instead of Charmin, haven't decided the significance of this yet but there's something there.
Anderson has a great point on the bucks to Quebec results in a tax cut subsidy from the rest of the provinces is in a good one. His counterpart reveals that maybe there's trouble in Quebec - Harper is probably sensing he needs to help Charest out for a bigger political win for himself by securing a federalist win.
Weston, Taber and Duff about who's voting for and who's not showing up. Duff specs that the NDP are crestfallen. Didn't know they had a crest left to fall.
Taber wraps up with comment that if he wanted support from Quebec, he'll get that.
It's a wrap.

Greatest Motivational Speech Ever...
WESTMORELAND. O that we now had here
But one ten thousand of those men in England
That do no work to-day!
KING. What's he that wishes so?
My cousin Westmoreland? No, my fair cousin;
If we are mark'd to die, we are enow
To do our country loss; and if to live,
The fewer men, the greater share of honour.
God's will! I pray thee, wish not one man more.
By Jove, I am not covetous for gold,
Nor care I who doth feed upon my cost;
It yearns me not if men my garments wear;
Such outward things dwell not in my desires.
But if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive.
No, faith, my coz, wish not a man from England.
God's peace! I would not lose so great an honour
As one man more methinks would share from me
For the best hope I have. O, do not wish one more!
Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man's company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.
This day is call'd the feast of Crispian.
He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.

Evening Lemons Report - Duff & Newman March 8
First off - an exclusive. Steffi Dion was in Toronto last nite for a real big fundraiser. He attracted hundreds of empty seats. Organizers were calling everyone who had even thought about voting liberal to fill up seats.
Tuning in a couple of minutes late.
What's infwastructure?... Dion is on (or off) We not go directly, we go other way around. Re women. Positive thing for women to make women compete. Need to win nomination (Gerrard?) last I heard he was awarded PDHP. Lots of women don't need his help?? Then why the promise? (Wow he is one confused guy.)
People working hard since a year, now continuing to work hard. something something grasswoots. Listing to Steffi is depressing. I want to play the high road. Wow, glad it's over.
Preston has blonde/red hair. Is he dying now or was he dying then?
Chief Economist of the TD (who used to be Paul Martin's flunky at Finance - is there anything political here?) wants polluters to have the greece squeezed out of them. Still think this smells fishy - banks shouldn't hire people who could be seen as conflicted.
McGuinty Too is on Duff at odds with his brother about transit money from PMSH. One McGuinty is too many.
Yawn. Empty partisan blah.
Back to Paul's Peon Pet Banker, he wants to invoke tough enviro taxes. Sue Bonner says this is political suicide. Why didn't he recommend this to Paul Martin? Charmin ad. Good work, CTV.
Ceeb repeats attact ads!! Yahoo. Free space. Doe Dion really think Canadians want to invest in the long term future instead of short term gratification as he says?? No Canadians I know. We'd run up our mother's credit card if we could.
Can't stand to listen to John MacCallum. He was PREVIOUSLY chief economist of TD Bank. Is there something going on between the TD Bank and the Liberal Party??
Rosie talks about elected House of Lords. Got that doofus George Baker, Senator (Lib) on. Waste of air. Accuses CPCs of playing politics on Senate reform. Terry Stratton seems like a nice man, but a bluenose politician will browbeat with bluster a Manitoban every time. Senate reform will affect mostly Liberals so natch it's bad.
On the Ceeb Dystra seems to have been talking since I clicked 4 minutes ago - he was awesome, minimized MacCallum's squeaks and was right on message (though had a little headlight-eyed deer look).
Martha Hall Finlay - natural question on Willowdale. She begs off except for praising Dave Peterson's brother. Effusively. Sue Bonner catches up on Steffi's promise on women- how can MHF be on both shows at the same time? Cheap tv tech tricks. Helen (Someday Half the Blue Jays Will be Women) Churley demands more vis-avis Rae and Kennedy bumping women. Boring. Bernie Lord. Boring. This "on message" stuff is great politics but shitty TV. Churley is upset for not getting equal time. She's only 4 foot 10. She doesn't DESERVE equal time.
Mini Second String Press Panel on CTV... Roger says was no news at Dion's speech at Canadian Club, is getting lost in the shuffle. Catches Steffi on his promise to take the high road - said just wait til the Grits go negative...
Brian says hes trying to form some kind of impression with the left side of the spectrum. Says Libs will swallow themself whole to avoid an election and get a chance to go back to school. Rogers says Grit's scared of election with untested leader.
Lemon is off until the budget.
If there is chronographer (is that a watch or soemone who records?) wants to fill in until then, be my guest.

Evening Lemons Report on Newman and Duff - March 7
Have to leave soon, quick summary - Bobby Rae was on with Rosie while his Liberal opponent for the nomination was on with Sue Bonner. Bobby was pompous and self important and insisted on fighting Steffis fight for him (swinging at Harper). Looks like he's not running for the nomination (figgers it's in the bag) nor the seat (figgers it's in the bag). Looked like he's constipated.
Meanwhile his Lesbian (not that there's anything wrong with that) Liberal opponent Meri Cartwright was on the Ceeb but got cut off. No equal time for the CPC candidate, nor the non-nominated iNDeePer, but since we're not having an election, I guess it doesn't matter.
Interlude while Ceeb covers a carcrash in BC and Duff sub covers the tax system crash.
Big News FINALLY - Revenue Canada went DOWN on us.
Cartwright is back ... She looks slightly stunned but has the semi -obligatory Liberal woman scarf (maybe to hide hickeys). Comment on getting women nominated, looks really stunned. Willing to accept a fair and open nomination process, as if this meets Steffi's affirmative action promise to get women to run.
Bill Siksay on CTV repeats the lie that "we" don't know what our mission is. iNDeePrs just don't effin listen (or havecollective ADD). Jason Kenney continues to lose weight - helped him get a CabMin job I bet.
Another toilet paper ad on after Rae and Cartwright were on - another case of excellent product placement.
Announcement that there is vacancy at Millhaven Spa since the security certificate terrorists were released by the SCOC . Siksay makes the assinine comment that the one remaining terrorist should be released because he's in slitary confinement... Puhleeze. Why don't they release them to Siksays house.
Gotta run - this show has great promise - maybe someone can update me in the comments.

Evening Lemons Report on Newman and Duff - March 6
Rosie is filling in again for Duff and Sue Bonner for Newman. First was PMSHs transit announcement in Toronto on both shows. Lawrence Cannon was in studio. Along with subway to York U is a series of rapid transit in the 905 border towns. Surly Toronto Mayor sure to become even surlier as nothing for downtown. Wasn't even invited to the announcement though Dalton Doolittle was. And Dalton and the PM sure looked buddy-buddy and so did Flaherty and Greg Sorbara (ON FinMin).
Lot's of comment on both shows on how the transit routes serve Liberal MP areas - hints that this is an initiative to spend money to grab Grit seats. God, they must hate this.
Thinkaboutit - QC and ON Grit premiers in love affair with a Tory PM - Steffi must be fuming. 15 minutes and clock running on this lead story.
Rosie with House Leaders while Ceeb still on Subway. House heads quizzed on PMSH announcement - now up to 20 mins of solid pro-Tory reportage - not a discouraging word yet. Ralphie the Hedgehog takes credit for Tory announcement "was in previous Liberal Framework" (too bad they never did it...) Cromartin craps on Ralphie for announcing but not delivering.
Maureen Jennings on with Bonner on Spanky Bryant's criticism of Liberal criminal justice policy disaster. Click.
Ralphie is suffering from fake nostalgia - waxing poetic about the $12 Billion that the Grits almost spent on infrastructure. All sorts of transfer payments, all sorts of transit money. Isn't waving his arms - maybe he's wearing that new strait jacket that Duffy made as a requirement of Ralph being on show. He must have worn lots of hair gel tonite too.
Bonner on Quebec: Charest and Dumont. Charest, with Boisclair dead in the water is now tackling ADQ. Death of Boisclair: Melissa Manchester song comes to mind "Don't Cry Out Loud", Frankie Valli's "Big Girls Don't Cry..."
Party Strategists on at CTV - More on GTA Transit announcement. Grit Senator again takes credit for $ (more fake nostalgia). ROSIE HITS HOME RUN - "Why didn't the Liberals do it?" Neil Macdonald is on Ceeb talking about Libby's conviction - Osama Bin Laden and Yasser Arafat weren't available.
Rosie goes to CPC Ads - Grit senator responds that Canadians don't want this. McGrath from Dips explains how they support a minority government (small wonder it's the only time they're relevant).
Stephen LeDrew on CBC is one Steve too many. Buffoon. Click.
Press Gallery on Duff. More on Transit. Weston says shot right into Grits not shot over bow. Taber confirms that Dion needs to support budget. So does Weston. Agree that no election on this. Taber almost effusive on giving credit to Harper.
Weston criticizes Dream Team strategy. Dion disappeared into the night on national trip. Taber disagrees. Taber explains how CPC has much more $ and how Leadership siphoned out a lot of Grit cash.
Taber wonders what Dion could announce in major speech tomorrow in Ottawa. Weston sorta spun wool on what Dion could actually do or say.
All in all - a 60 minute ad for Stephen Harper's Conservative Party of Canada.

A View of Our Socialist Toronto Future
Here in Toronto it is well known that the current City Council (which is 2/3 NDP) thinks that cars are a scourge. And considerably more than half the people who vote in civic elections agree (why needs to be the subject of another battle in another year).
The past ten days have revealed what our transportation future looks like under socialist rule. Gas yesterday was $1.02/l, when a few weeks ago it was $0.82. A shortage of gas as a result of the perfect storm of a fire at a refinery, heavy snowstorms and a CN Rail strike meant that there was a shortage of auto fuel in Toronto.
In other words, for city socialists, it was nirvana - drivers were severely inconvenienced.
Today the Gardiner expressway was closed due to ice (ain't global warming great) and a tragic accident, so traffic was rerouted onto Lakeshore and then onto the Queensway, King St. (which was also closed in a section), Queen St. and even Dundas. It was bumper to bumper going west all the way to Kipling. A twenty minute trip took over an hour.
Miller's Minion's proposals are designed to make this scenario permanent. They want to raise taxes on gasoline, charge congestion taxes downtown, and close two lanes to cars on all major thoroughfares for dedicated streetcar lanes. This without providing mass transit that will actually move people around the GTA.
Get used to this morning, people, coz when David Miller continues to get his way, this will become the future state of transportation in Toronto.

Evening Lemons Report on Newman and Duff - March 5
Rosemary Thompson sitting in for Duff. Not a good start...
Susan Bonner in for Newman. Worse start... Suppose the old farts are out having beers??
Bank Fees!! Flaherty starts out of the gate on both shows promises to save voters $1.50 a day. That and the GST cut buys my coffee.
Wascylisa-Leis and Redman both seem to say it's a great idea, and Judy trys to take credit. Wonder if the NDP wants to collect all the Bank Fees to pay Rob't Maclelland to shut him up.
Story goes on far too long. My God, it's a buck and a half, people . . .
Redman takes opening from Rosie to punch Flaherty in his income trusts and Judy WL beats up Gord Nixon for making gazillion as CEO of Royal Bank.
Assinine lead story, making a mountain out of a mote (look it up) - we're 11 minutes into the show. I'm dying here. CTV has an incredibly irritating fiddle ad about Nfld which is way less irritating than the Ceeb continuing the ATM debate with Paul Dewar and John Mackay.
NEXT BIG NEWS!!! On Duff, Rosie announces that Big City Mayors want money. David Miller is on. Am gonna write a chapter of my book until it's over. God, Miller is a goof, an absolute doofus. The "if only" Mayor.
Thankfully, Bonner is on to Air India over at NW. I am studying my walls, looking at places that I have to touch up and wondering if I can match the paint. Terry Milewski, finally out of JJC exile all these years later, can't even make this interesting. (Spanish Olive Green I think with Taupe moldings).
Chantal Hebert is coming up on CTV - CBC has lost me am gonna watch ads on CTV. Glad to see that our major Media ain't about to give up the Anti Global Warming SUV advertising, nor stop encouraging our parents from taking out CHIPS and spending our collective inheritances.
Hebert well describes separation between Feds and Pros and Harper's plan to respect this and win Quebec by doing it. Also importance of Going Green to Quebec and Cities. Wow, poll reveals Beauclair as a loser and value to Harper. (How come PMSH gets all the credit when all we minions in the ridings get none...) Says Mario Dumont to act as weathervane for Harper depending on his level of support. Chantal says Quebecers like Dion on environment but he's flunking on unity. Says signs that Harper and Quebec is not a one nite stand.
Miller takes his boringness self onto CBC. Asks for money. Bonner asks tougher question, Miller's collar looks tight. Blahblahblah. Switch.
Bernie Lord and Gerry Kennedy on CTV. Am gonna snooze until something interesting is said and done here. Maybe Rose doing a slow strip tease. Ah. No. How about Duff doing a slow. . . don't wanna go there. Switch.
Switch... Switch... Rosey points out to Joy McPhail how much the Tories have spent pre-election - maybe $100 million she says. That's tip money for the Liberals. Eco-this. Eco-that. Eco-blah. Eeeeeek.
Lord needs an image advisor. Bad hair. Gerry K. Blah. Blah. Switch. Charmin toilet paper ad. Have never seen product ever placed better. Kennedy talks about Tories "buying their good will". As a Liberal he would know and he outshouts Bernie and doesnt give Joy a chance to
Ceeb with Backroom (although I don't think any of these saps are ever allowed within a block of a realbackroom). Talk about Bank Fees. Again. Much doodoo about nothing. John Duffy not asked about his lobbying for a hazardous material company. Says that consensus on bank fees is proof that an election not necessary. Can't wait til the show ends.
How many Corner Gas ads can one person endure.
Press Gallery on Duff. Reports that Dion cancelled meeting at industrial park - blames Tories. Fife says "Liberals Scared Stiff!!" Good to know that the Libs can still get stiff. Suggestion that Libs will abstain on Budget vote. Fife says the Libs will jump thru hoops to avoid election and suggests some of the prospect leaders want Dion to get big whoop ass. This is a no Garth zone, but Fife did make fun of him.
Finish with Bank Fees. Enough.
It's over. for Monday. Finally.

Green is Good, but GREED is Better!
Adler
Charles Adler writes a nice, but somehow unfufilling, piece at the above link with a nice little remembrance of Gord Gekko and Wall Street.
To expand on Charles' work, I'd comment that Greed ain't only GOOD, or BETTER, but it is EVERYTHING!
With the exception of guilt and sexual fulfillment, the only motivation in the world is greed.
Every man and womanjack in the world acts in their own best interest every moment of their lives. Sure enough some of that required self-slaking involves doing something harmful to themselves, but that is usually a factor of chemical addiction or psychological affliction.
But, ladies and gentlemen, and even you liberals and socialists, we all (members of humanity) only do things because we are greedy. We want more money, bigger homes, more women/men, more children, more righteousness, more respect, more mojo, more control over the lives and actions of others, more (did I mention women?).
The last true altruist was crucified and even He requested our immortal souls.
Face it, we are all greedy to an absolute perfect fault. It it is the only thing that makes the world go around.

"It is incumbent upon us to proceed down a path of least risk to humanity"
The title above is taken from here in a posting by someone with the name of "Don B". He concludes that there are four options and that the only alternative that will really allow satisfaction of this post's title is "3."
His alternative courses of action (which are logically self evident) are:
1. The "Al Gore" camp is wrong and the world does nothing.
2. The "Al Gore" camp is wrong but the world assumes the opposite and does something.
3. The "Al Gore" camp is right and the world agrees and does something.
4. The "Al Gore" camp is right and the world does nothing.
The result of 1 is STATUS QUO.
The result of 2 is an EXPENSIVE but HEALTHIER ENVIRONMENT.
The result of 3 is a BETTER FUTURE and MILLIONS of LIVES SAVED.
The result of 4 is AT LEAST 2 BILLION DIE NEEDLESSLY.
But his logic which seems to appear in his identification of alternative courses of action doesn't follow.
1. To assume that the world (I guess he really means people) will do nothing is ridiculous. Humans have survived longer than the wooly mammoth because of our ability to adapt. Whether through invention or mobility, mankind has managed to survive tremendous upheaval. We would adapt.
2. and 3. Assumes that "doing something" is simple to the point of being simple-minded. It assumes that there is no net cost to "doing something". It does not consider that the economic disruption of "doing something" might result in the starvation of billions if food cannot be produced or distributed.
4. Assumes that there are no possible beneficial effects of "doing nothing" such as, for example, fewer people starving as a result of a greater ability to produce food in a warmer climate.
The title as it is borrowed from "Don B" is also fallacious in its point made. We accept risks as a species all the time because the costs of some safety measures are prohibitive. We could legislate for safety reasons, as an example, that all people never leave their homes because of the risk of getting hit by a car. A real example in history is the well publicized effect of saving people in Africa by ending the use of DDT, which has resulted in millions dying from malaria.
We should not quickly accept statements of attempted logic as having any validity, because as often as not, something that sounds rational, is not.

Layton is Trolling - Where did THIS come from
Got an email from Layton - but why. Trust me I didn't ask to be put on his mailing list. I've never, ever given Jack my email (oh, wait a sec, I had drinks with him and Olivia a year and half ago. Probably was my stalker that Zorph troll playing a practical joke.
Thank you for sharing your concern for Canada's performance on protecting our environment.
(Yup, Jack, I'm concerned about the environment. I'm concerned about fruitcakes like you and Olivia making Canada "a wealth free zone" like you made Toronto a "nuke free zone".
After so many years of federal inaction, everyday Canadians say the environment is their #1 priority, and New Democrats are listening. (Jeez, I'm a Canadian and the Environment ain't in my top 10 (though those do gooder eco-fearmongers that want to take all my money is.)
The NDP has a comprehensive plan to improve our environment and fight climate change. (The only thing comprehensive about the NDP, Jack, is their futility.)
Our action plan includes:
- Meeting Canada's commitments under the Kyoto protocol (Jeez, Jack ya lost me on this one, will you pick up my piece of the commitment for me?)
- Developing a national sustainability plan (Whatever TF that means.)
- Significantly increasing the responsibility of large industries to reduce emissions (and eliminate employment here to go tocountries not covered by Kyoto).
- Legislating a mandatory fuel efficiency standard that meets or exceeds leading North American jurisdictions. (You do like rules, Jack. At least the rules you like, not the ones that you don't like i.e. those that don't protect union jobs.)
- Ending subsidies to polluting industries. (How about ending subsidies to David Suzuki?)
I appreciate your efforts to register your views with me. I hope I can count on your support to make Parliament work on behalf of all Canadians. (Nope. But thanks for the note.)
All the best.
Sincerely,
Jack Layton, MP (Toronto-Danforth)
Leader, Canada's New Democrats

Evening Lemons Report Duff & Newman - March 2
Delacourt said tonite on Newman that she "wondered why I go to the House of Commons." (Fine, Susie, get a cooking show.) Then accuses PCs as "surrounding themselves with victims". (No mention of Iggy calling them a slideshow. )
Kookie Suzuki is on Duffy.
Duff asks Suzuki if he should lose his charitable status.
The Kook says only if he's partisan.
He denied that he preached don't vote conservative in a classroom.
Does anyone have video?
Delacourt says Dion is "working for the long term". Does she really think that Dion HAS a long term?
Alghabra demands to know who is being accused as an extremist who supports the legalization of Hamas and Hezbollah. (Omar - it's you baby - you're on the record for this.)
Weston complains about decorum in the house. (Ever go to The Keg, Greg?)
Scott Reid again looks like a raccoon. Powers reverts to Newfie accent to gain an edge (Howling winds of outrage particularly musical). Lot of talk about busts. Reid finishes with an apparently lipsticked hand puppet. (Were was that hand?)
Delacourt drops the King Lear "Sound and Fury" line. Gives Tories a pass on attack ads. Describes Libs as hostages and CPCs as confident and happy. Says Libs playing into CPCs poor leadership thing. (This tends to confirm that the ads worked if Delacourt changed her mind.) Weston admits Liberals really in trouble and that Sunday's poll will reveal that Quebecers are steadily gaining acceptance and receptiveness to Harper.
Is it just me, but does Nelly Furtado look like she's wearing a bad wig.
Craig Oliver says Dion not selling - says not being seen as a natural leader (more proof of power of attack ads).
Says Dion going left and might lose the centre.
Duff quoted Kookie to conclude that "if Canada's biggest environmentalist is believing that Harper's finally got it. . .".
It's in the air and on the air. Tension, unstated excitement. Expect an election call before the daffodils sprout.

UpDate - Gore's Purchase of Indulgences
"Gore spokesperson Kalee Kreider said he buys enough "green power" – renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas – to balance 100 per cent of electricity costs."
Gore participates in a utility program that sells blocks of "green power" for an extra $4 a month. He buys 108 such blocks every month, covering 16,200 kilowatt-hours and helping subsidize renewable energy sources.
"Sometimes when people don't like the message, in this case that global warming is real, it's convenient to attack the messenger," she said. "
Gore has been buying the "green power" for $432 a month since November, and his home is also under renovation to add solar panels, Kreider said. (Ed. what about before Nov? obviously he and his followers are not stupid hypocrites))
"It is however, okay for people who fight against the global corporate over consumption to attack those who disagree", she added.
(Note - I made this last quote up to see if yu're paying attention)

Eco Movement Needs a Reformation
I really wish I had thought of this first.
I mean, I consider myself a bit of a religious scholar (if amateur and only focussed on Christianity).
And I have spent many hours with people (especially Roman Cathlolics in Quebec) discussing the Reformation and the protestant movement; the split and its reasons. And God knows how suspicious I am of the Green movement.
One of the most significant reasons for the Reformation by those such as Knox, Wycliff, Luther and Calvin was the selling of indulgences.
Sinners were allowed to pay cash (or precious jewels or land) to priests for sins; as slight as taking the Lord's name in vain to as serious as murder.
It got really bad about 450 years ago when nobles would actually pay for indulgences in advance. They would ask a priest, for example, "What would it cost, Father, for me to be absolved of my sins if I were to kill Lord Greystroke?"
The deal would be struck with the murderer knowing in advance of his sin what it would cost and that he would not be condemned to eternal damnation for his act.
Many commentators have drawn a comparison between Ecology Protection and a religion or a cult.
And this is an easy comparison to make: ecology types have their doctrines, their catechisms, their inquisitions.
Their high priests also sell indulgences.
Both Al Gore and Dave Suzuki make a point of explaining how they are contributing literally hundreds of dollars to get off the hook for the harm that their private jets and buses are doing to the environment.
Back then, a movement led to hundreds of millions of believers abandoning their fielty to the Roman Catholic Church. Will we see that happen now with the greeniacs?
I doubt it. They are too afraid of excommunication, which now translates into being banned from Hollywood A List parties.

Gore Family Owned by Armand Hammer
A few years ago a friend of mind advised of how she had travelled from London to Washington with Al Gore in a private jet in the 80's. As well as determining from experience that Al was a lech, she learned that she was flying in Armand Hammer's private plane.
In a recent post I noted (from a USA Today post of all places) that Al Gore was administering a family trust that included a considerable investment in Occidental Petroleum. Who owned Oxy Petro? Armand Hammer.
Who was among the most venial capitalists in the 20th century, walking over and poisoning all below? Armand Hammer.
Who did Armand Hammer claim to own? The Gore Family

Gore the Green - The Truth is Out There
THIS IS HILARIOUS. ENJOY YOUR OSCAR ALBERT
USA T0day reports Here
HT to a random reader
For someone who says the sky is falling, he does very little. He says he recycles and drives a hybrid. And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film's distributor, pays this.)
Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-sf home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.
Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.
But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.
Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn't Gore dump his family's large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas.
Living carbon-neutral apparently doesn't mean living oil-stock free. Nor does it necessarily mean giving up a mining royalty either.
Humanity might be "sitting on a ticking time bomb," but Gore's home in Carthage is sitting on a zinc mine. Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River.

How Credible is Al Gore?
Open Thread - More Examples Encouraged...
Albert Gore is about to win an Academy Award for a film that might best qualify for Best Fictionalized Version of a Series of Unsubstantiated Events.
And with his ego, I suspect he will love his little statuette much more that he does his children or wife. It will surely be in a place of honour at his home, be in the background of every picture taken of him, and replace "used to be the next President of the United States" in his introductions. Okay, nor replace, but precede.
I remember a biography of Gore on PBS back when he was running for POTUS, and the story of him un-inviting his father from participating in his Senate campaign (because his Dad had lost the Senate seat in the previous election) and his ratting out football teammates at Yale for breaking curfew. So from that point on, although I had liked Bill Clinton, I could never support his backstabbing Veep.
Gore's film has been subjected to considerable professional criticism for its lack of accuracy. Most recently here (ht to Celestial Junk).
Given the fact that Al, may be slightly stretching the truth on Anthropogenic Global Warming, and taking into account his disputed claim to invention of the internet and his significant role in the Campaign Financing Scandal, ("I didn't do it and I promise never to do it again"), I wonder what else is out there about he who is determined to safe us from ourselves, whether we want him to or not?
Any more stuff we should know?

CBC Censorship Week - Again Proves Hypocrisy
I learned this morning that this is censorship week on the Ceeb. I think that they’re not in favour of it, although they didn’t mention the Egyptian blogger doing time nor the banning of Bibles in Saudi Arabia, nor the Falun Gong in China. I guess, really, it was "Censorship in Canada and the USA Week".
One show this morning focussed on an FDA director who resigned because her superiors refused to fast track approval of the day after pill. Fair enough, although I was not convinced it was a censorship issue.
Quirks and Quarks, of course, talked about science being affected by politics and by corporate sponsorship and mentioned global warming. To Bob Macdonald’s credit he did query his interview subject on conflicts of interest by proponents of AGW. And the response was fair in that the guest said that the way science works best is when other scientists critically review the conclusions of others. The circle wasn’t squared, though, because the ostracization of AGW “deniers” was not followed up on.
But, back to my main theme, the Ceeb criticizing censorship at all. Because perhaps the most egregious example of censorship in Canada in recent memory was by the CBC itself. What About Michael Coren?
Read about it here, but basically, conservative commentator Michael Coren was initially booked to appear on CBC News Sunday with Evan Solomon and Carole MacNeil, but his appearance was cancelled fifteen hours before by CBC producer Ghazala Malik. Coren's closing comment in his report on this is particularly powerful given the CBC's self-righteous fight against censorship: "People used to run away to sea. Now they run away to the CBC. Well, at least the ones who don't like freedom of speech do so. "
I am a frequent critic of the CBC for its philosophical selectivity in its choice of guests and subject matter “experts”. So I won’t reiterate this. Nor will I even bother criticizing their not reporting on a non-North American world of people dying because of their state’s non allowance of free speech, or even how they managed to make a Stephen Harper joke while they were at it.
But CBC is again hypocritical for not looking within itself to be sure (or admit) that they are not without sin, and should not be busy casting stones..

"Rights" More Important Than Public Safety - Update
At the moment the victors (including these supporters and intervenors such as) of the Supreme Court decision relative to Security Certificates are hooting enthusiastically on Newsworld. Since they are victors, this presumes there are losers. And said losers are those of us who are concerned about those committed to the destruction of our society and are using OUR laws to do so. The winners include Amnesty International (who also believe that Abortion Laws are a violation of human rights), any number of UN agencies and terrorist groups with all forms of hatred of western secular society.
"Other totalitarian states such as Australia will be forced to change their laws", said Adil Charkaoui, who is suspected of being an Al Qaida supporter.
The announcement was politicized by the comment by the Civil Liberties spokesperson who explained to watchers that, "thankfully this decision cannot be challenged by the minority conservative government."
How will Canadians like Liberal appointed judges when the bomb goes off?
The Phantom Observer makes a good argument in favour of the SCOC decision.
This reporter has been a frequent critic of the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court of Canada has struck down the security certificate system used by the federal government to detain and deport foreign-born terrorist suspects. In a 9-0 judgment, the court found that the system, described by government officials as a key tool for safeguarding national security, violates the Charter of Rights.Who will rid us of these pestilent priests and protectors of the enemies of our society?

CBC Bias Always Reflected in Their Choice of "Experts"
Tuesday we commented on the CBC's use of a spokesperson from the eco-lobbyist to speak on climate change (with a footnote on their use of the Polaris Institute to comment on military issues).
Today their report on the use of animals for training of military medics was reviewed. Of course there was a huge hew and cry about this from the chatterers - they were apoplectic that pigs were shot and medics then practiced by repairing the wounds. Can you imagine! Canadian animals are being used to save the lives of soldiers fighting an immoral war!
Notwithstanding the fact that we on a daily basis kill millions of animals and eat them.
Back to my point.
This morning the "expert" du jour was Dr. Kerry Bowman, who was introduced as a "Medical Ethicist".
Indeed he claims himself to be such. But, on the other side of the equation he is an animal rights activist and was a speaker at this conference of the University Coalition of Animal Rights and the Environment.
I will not lay blame on Dr. Bowman for appearing on the program, I will blame the CBC for continuing to use conflicted "experts" without either identifying possible conflicts of interest or inviting a counterpoint speaker.

Scary Greenpeace Eco-Terrorist Kid Possibly Identified!!!
Canadian Blue Lemons MAY HAVE IDENTIFIED the scary and angry little kid in THIS post from the other day.

Was it THIS KID:

Who would have ever thought that Britney would be THIS desperate for attention.

Tinkerbell and Captain Hook in Neverneverland
Looks like Elizabeth (Tinkerbell) May spent too much time in the Sierra Club cuddling baby seals. (Come to think about it, when Stephane gets that certain look in his eyes, you know that sad, bambi-ish, hurt expression when people are not fair. . .)
She flits around the Hill and believes in raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens and warm winter mittens.
Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny and that the Liberals will not run a real candidate against her to allow her to walk through the doors of the Peace Tower unopposed.
It is to laugh.
The Liberals are the most venial and nasty of all in Neverneverland. The Liberal Party is Captain Hook. And there ain't enough fairy dust to have one of their local loyalists, who has likely spent a decade or more passing out flyers and drinking bad coffee, stand down for her.
Actually, it is to dream. (But the greenies are good at that.)

Suzuki & AGW Lapdog Economist in Toronto - Update
No doubt warming up a frigid Toronto for Al Gore's visit in a couple of days (assuming an ice storm doesn't cause another cancelation), Kooky Suzuki and his high priest of global warming economics, Nicholas Stern, today honoured his supplicants with a visit to the cathedral of Canadian Capitalism, the Toronto Stock Exchange.
I caught a few moments of their media conference on CP24; Dr. Stern was introduced as former Chief Economist of the World Bank and "recognized by some as the leading expert on the economic effects of global warming".
Who are these some that recognize Stern as such? I cynically wonder.
I suppose Suzuki is in this group of some and Mo Strong, given Stern's leadership of a corrupt twin of the United Nations.
A strong criticism of Stern's, well, stern and pessimistic forecasts is here.
Update Note on Mo Strong (from link at sda) Not surprisingly Chairman Mo was also a special advisor to THE WORLD BANK. The circle is further squared. And to add an angle, the link is to a list of Board Members for a Uranium exploration company. So not only is Big Mo tring to destroy western economies with wealth transfer schemes, he's a key man with Total Petroleum, the nuke biz and Chinese automaking. Talk about vertical integration.

Baldwin Brothers Responsible for Climate Change
Even more nefarious than Maurice Strong's (Dr. Evil) pursuit of global domination, scarier than Islamists threatening to close down all the shwarma shops on Bank Street, and even more embarrassing to mankind than Cindy Sheehan doing whatever Cindy Sheehan is doing . . .
Those pudgy, boozing Baldwin brothers are responsible for Climate Change:
Stephen is the star of Dark Storm -- On a secret military base a group of scientists have made a discovery unequaled since the invention of the A-bomb; a leading scientist on the project is blasted with Dark Matter, he receives incredible abilities that allow him to control the weather.
There are reports that he is supported in his global exercise to destroy the world by his more handsome (but no less pudgy) brother, Alec, in the role of soon to be President of the United States, Jack Ryan.
Climate Change truly now deserves all our attention.
I was not in the least concerned when it was only Gore and Suzuki I had to worry about as far as the end of the world. But when these Baldwins, two nondescripts who have made multi-millions of dollars while being horrendous actors, are in a position to change the climate as we know it, I will simply be unable to sleep at night with my worry.
We must act now!!!

Suzuki Fans LOVE Lemon and SDA's Macmillan
Hey Kate - we're getting under their skin!
Though really, I think they're sensing the beginning of the end of their nutty eco-puritan inquisition against western economies.
This eco-fascist's bonding us together as being pathetic is the greatest possible compliment I could receive. I hope you won't mind my figuratively sharing his (or her) "C" word appellation for you.
I've got my neighbour's keeping their eyes open for any green helicopters hovering over the house.

US Senate Committee Bashes Climate Alarmists
Get a Load of This from US Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works.
You know, THAT US Senate that is controlled by Al Gore's Democratic Party. Of course, the Suzuki Kookies and Gore Core will spend weeks trying to discredit the speaker. Even though he is accountable and they are not.

Did Mo Strong Reward Suzuki Daughter with UN Post?
This is an old story, but worth bringing public again (thanks to CBL reader Cascadian)
Mo Strong uses institutions to reward friends and manipulate people.
He did this for Paul Martin with Canada Steamship. There have been rumors that he was responsible for JJ Chretien getting a seven figure contract with the Iranian Oil Ministry after leaving the PMs job.
He did this for David Suzuki's daughter - getting her a special advisory position for the UN Secretary General.
I'm not going to speculate of all the implications of this. The BT audience has far greater imagination (and research capability) than does this simple blue lemon.

Chairman Mo Strong on Suzuki Board
Geneticist Kooky Suzuki makes a point of trying to suggest that his Foundation is a servant of the people.
But even a cursory glance at his Board reveals the leadership of most conflicted "peep" possible relative to the entire, stinky anthropogenic global warming mosh pit, Maurice Strong. (Note - Updated Link from CFP)
CBL has been a frequent observer of the questionable connections of Mr. Strong. How he has close ties to businesses with major interests in France that are reliant on Irani oil interests, how he is closely aligned with these same interests in China, how he was influential as a leader within the United Nations that resulted in corrupt programs such as Oil for Food in Iraq and Food Money for Nukes in North Korea. How he organized for Paul Martin to take over Canada Steamship Lines for a pitance, and then to become PM. How he was Godfather for almost forty years of Prime Ministers (prior to PMSH). And how he is the Father of Kyoto.
People are known by the company they keep. And if Kooky-man is in bed with Mo, than we can be assured that every single act of Suzuki and his Foundation should be given very in-depth scrutiny.

Personality Disorder Resulting in Policy on the Fly?
I got a suspicion that what is seen of Stephane Dion on TV reveals what could be seen if there was a way of looking inside his head.
I think he's enormously insecure and suspicious of others if not a little paranoid. This is reflected in his tendency to fly off the handle when he's challenged.
His imaginery environmental mentorship with a neighbour who supposedly invited young Stef to accompany him on his walks in the woods (the guy denies this ever happened) is a sign of delusionalism.
His early affection for separatism followed by the acquisition of a French citizenship suggests that he's always been in search of an identity.
The end result is the complete and utter chaos that is the Liberal caucus and the complete disarray in their policy statements. It looks to me like he is desperately trying to always prove himself right, and everyone else always wrong.
He may think that he's wedging himself against his adversary, but by always arguing against everything that the PM does he's just cornering himself into unsupportable positions.
I think he's running his own strategy and policy activities and ignoring any input from anyone else.
This would be consistent with the personality deficiencies noted above.
There is not an experienced advisor out there that would give Dion advice that would result in his doing the things he is doing. And the Libs have a whole army of really experienced and clever people.

Kooky Suzuki's PR Firm (Desmog Blog) Blog Financier Arrested
Geneticist Kooky Suzuki's PR Firm has a blog that is aggressively attempting to ruin the reputations and lives of people who disagree with Kooky's Human-Caused Global Warming Theory. This week (ht a CLB reader) their main financial supporter (who is a billionaire beneficiary of the millions of lives ruined by on-line gambling) was arrested.
Desmog Blog continues their propaganda exercise by being as aggressive in defending their friends as they are in destroying the lives of debunkers of their misbegotten theories.
From Desmogblog:
The DeSmogBlog team is especially grateful to our benefactor John Lefebvre, a lawyer, internet entrepreneur and past-president of NETeller, a firm that has been providing secure online transactions since 1999. John has been outspoken, uncompromising and courageous in challenging those who would muddy the climate change debate, and he has enabled and inspired the same standard on the blog.
Complete Story of Arrest
Sweeney needs to select a new transfer service because Neteller, the company he previously used, recently stopped processing financial transfers between U.S. residents and online gambling sites. That announcement came only three days after the FBI arrested Stephen Lawrence and John Lefebvre, Neteller's two founders and former directors, who were charged with transferring illegal gambling proceeds.

Comment Moderation Enabled Due to AGW Response
I've been assailed today with comments from anthropogenic global warming activists and have turned on comment moderation to limit the amount of grief I have to deal with and limit the use of my blog for others' PR purposes.
I will approve any reasonable posts.
I'm waiting for a camo-clad Greenpeace SWAT team to zip down from a silent green chopper to shut me up.
Maybe twelve year old Greenpeace boys who are going to kill some, but not all adults, for destroying the planet. (Although surely even Al Gore has at some time released some noxious emissions.)
As contained in some other posts, the greens are pros at PR and manipulating public opinion. They are aggressively and abusively discrediting anyone who publicizes ideas or observations that disagree with theirs.
One approach being used is for them to speciously discredit opponents, and then refer to these specious discreditations at a later point to evidence the lack of credibility of the opponent.
The amount of energy that they are putting into closing down debate is likely evidence enough of the weakness of their own position.

Who Finances David Suzuki?
The Suzuki Foundation's PR Firm runs a blog
The blog's latest mission is to discredit Canadian scientists who oppose the drastic measures demanded by Suzuki, Gore and the rest of the wild-eyed Gaia preferrers and reality-deniers.
Here's a link to their strategy
This is left wing McCarthyism at best and Salem Witch Trials at worst.
These Enviro-terrorists have set out to destroy careers of high calibre professionals for no more reason than that these scientists don't agree with the Suzuki cult's eco-catechism.
One area they are researching is to try and determine conflicts of interests that might be held by these scientists by way of sources of income.
Seems to me that if Suzuki and his eco-minions are so holy, that they might reveal publicly their sources of financial support. Are there marxist organizations or even marxist governments financing their activities? (I wouldn't be surprised because these commies fund the G8 and WTO protests.) Are they in reality an arm of Greenpeace?
Come on, Desmog and David - tell us. Who pays for YOUR communications activities and travel?
You are a powerful lobby group - who do YOU work for?

Greenpeace Kid Promises to Terrorize Adults.
I think her parents should blow her college fund on booze, cause they've got a life of hell ahead of them. This is funny. Self-important little twig. Way too much Matrix. But that's kinda the whole green movement. Thanks to Kate for revealing this.
Global Warming Conference Cancelled by Ice Storm
WASHINGTON: As ironies go, it can't get starker. The US Congress has had to postpone a hearing on global warming on Wednesday because of — bad weather.
Here
Meanwhile, Al Gore had to skate around his St. Louis lecture
In my long life, I can only remember one thing as funny.
In Halifax, in the paper's classified ads one morning I came across this "The monthly meeting of Halifax Region Psychics is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances."

Leftist Communications Strategy for Climate Change
I'll let you read Ranting Stan's review of this (he found it here).
But the IPCC conspiracy theorists hired a communications company to provide a manual to deal with opposition. Strategies include:
But the IPCC conspiracy theorists hired a communications company to provide a manual to deal with opposition. Strategies include:
- Treating climate change as beyond argument
- Interested agencies now need to treat the argument as having been won. This means simply behaving as if climate change exists and is real, and that individual actions are effective.
- The ‘facts’ need to be treated as being so taken-for-granted that they need not be spoken.
- We also live in a culture in which celebrity rules supreme . . .
- The challenge is to make climate-friendly behaviours feel normal, natural, right and ‘ours’
Golden Lemon Award - February 2007
Ranting Stan from Slough, UK has a great perspective on all things stupid and sycophantic from the left. And ya gotta love his review of Climate Change Attack Dogs
In particular he identifies one "Angela, from desmogblog" and goes on to reveal this particular troll as being associated with James Hoggan & Associates Inc.
What he fails to notice is that James Hoggan et al is DAVID SUZUKI's PR firm, who Dr. Dave identified as one of Western Canada's leading such outfits (click here). Good to see that Davie is resorting to having his minions troll websites that point out flaws in his theory.
February's covetted Golden Lemon to Ranting Stan for doing an outstanding job of revealing leftist audaciousness as it relates to Climate Change theories.

19000+ Scientists Sign Petition that Denies Global Warming Risk
So much for the other Global Warming Theory that states that the science is in and that there is no credible opposition and that the "deniers" are all paid for my big oil.
This Global Warming Petition reads as follows:
We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.
There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gasses is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

Protest Al Gore in Toronto on February 21
Anyone wanna help organize an Anti Inconvenient Truth protest in Toronto when Albert Gore speaks at the UofT?
I would anticipate trying to get a few dozen shrill placard carriers out and hopefully, a name brand climatology expert to speak at a news conference.
I'm not gonna do a Quixote on this - if there's enough support, I'll work on coordinating this, if not I won't. I'm a busy dude, but I think this is a good chance to get some media to pay attention to the other side of the tale.
Reply if so interested.

Summary: The Lies of "An Inconvenient Truth"
HT to Clear Conservative Thought
Original Source: Competitive Enterprise Institute
"An Inconvenient Truth" has become the bible for those who are ardently committed to taking the civilized world back to the days of pre-industrialism. At the same time they wish to transfer the wealth of those developed countries to those parts of the globe that for whatever reason live in a time closer to Western Europe in the Stone Age, than Fifth Avernue now. Where I come from, this makes the entire exercise Marxist and not scientific.
I have translated the above referenced links into point form below.

Omissions
- The "used to be next President" Albert Gore claims to be non-partisan in his work. This is untrue - he is a fierce opponent of the current executive branch of the USA and still has plans to run as President of the United States. This film and book is a political exercise for him to gain develop support for his personal interests.
- The film never compares the benefits of our lifestyle to alternatives: as it is, it alleviates hunger and poverty, extends life spans and makes life enabling medicines, food and other resources to all parts of the world. A cost benefit analysis is not represented.
- It does not consider the possible positive effects of a warmer planet and its effect upon the reduced demand for fossil fuels for heating and the huge increase in food production and resulting possible reduction in global hunger.
- It neglects to report that deaths due to extreme weather events have declined dramatically overall in the last hundred years.
- It apportions considerable blame to western countries on a relative basis, comparing the most modern and advanced society (at least two of which cover huge geographies) to the most agrarian and backward and often tiny nations.
- It impugns the so-called vested interests of global warming deniers, but never deniers the special benefits of those who promote the theory - including those who seek political office.
- It does not address the cost of implementing severe reductions in implementing a prospective emission plan such as the Kyoto Prototcol.
- The film implied that changes in CO2 levels preceed global warming when, if anything, the opposite is true.
- There was a bias in the scientists used to develop their consensus - sociologists were attributed equal credibility as climatologists and implied that a study that since 928 selected scientific abstracts did not deny Gore's postulation that this was evidence of the consensus.
- It reports that 48 Nobel Prize-winning scientists accused President Bush of distorting science, without informing that the scientists were members of a political group supporting John Kerry.
Exaggerations
- The film attributes the severity of tropical storms to global warming. There is absolutely no evidence of this.
- They blamed devastation of the polar bear population global warming based upon the drowning of four animals. The Polar Bear population in northern Canada is increasing overall.
- The collapse of the Larson_B Ice shelf in Antarctica is not a harbinger of doom. It was an irrelevant event considering the size of that continent.
- The film lies about more stringent fuel economy standards in China compared to the USA (they are 5% more stringent not 30%). They do not comment on whether these standards in China will be enforced.
- The film attributes the 37 inch downpour of July 2005 in Mumbai to global warming even though there is no trend of such events in the area for almost fifty years.
- It blames global warming for floods in China not advising that far more serious floods were evident over 100 years ago.
- Global warming is blamed for the disappearance of Lake Chad which is more likely a result of increased population and consumption by humans and animals.
- The film warns of how increase in CO2 levels will acidify and warm seawater resulting in elimination of coral reef construction. In fact these events would result in an increase in coral reef construction.

The Horror! The Hypocrisy! The Stupidity!
Little Stevie (Petit Etienne) announced today that he would mandate that 1/3 of his candidates are women.
He is supported in this initiative by his special advisor of Election Readiness (who has never run or worked on a Federal Campaign), Gerard Kennedy who reported to the Star:
"We're trying to find the techniques that are consistent with our democratic processes to the greatest extent possible."
Now. Deep Breath.
Gerard Kennedy is running in Parkdale High Park (I get to vote against him); the seat that prior to his announcement esteemed former Cabinet Minister and thirteen year MP, Sam Bulte was gonna run in.
But she dropped out when the handsome, smart, western, bilingual, hockey whiz, heir apparent little Gerry decided he wanted it.
Tell me People. Tell Me. Do you honestly believe, even the Cerniaks among you (fyi Cherniak: (n) a stupified self important partisan Liberal who got the boot from the law firm he was articling for) that Stephane will guarantee these women nominations in ridings they have a hooters chance of winning? (assuming they have good hooters).
It is hard to write when you're laughing as hard as I am.

Solution to Reducing Emissions by 20% in Canada
HT to Political Staples
"He acknowledged that a Liberal government would be "behind the eight ball" in meeting those commitments, which one expert estimated would mean a 20% cut in emissions by every individual Canadian, every building and every enterprise. "
Here's a simple solution:
Pay for each Canadian to spend 1.4 days per week in Mexico!!!
Think about it - we will be transferring OUR emissions to a place that is not on the IPCC hit list (ie Canada and USA) AND think of the additional benefits - thousands upon thousands of us will be murdered, and never again emit a single iota of any kind of emissions.
Crazy thing is, it will probably be way cheaper than implementing Kyoto.

The Report You Are Not Allowed to See on Global Warming is Online
The completed draft of the IPCC report on Climate Change is posted at http://www.junkscience.com/draft_AR4/Ch03_SOD_Figs_TSU_FINAL_P1.pdf
The release of the report (which was drafted by scientists) was delayed for several months so that the actual findings would agree with the draft policy recommendations (which was drafted by non-scientific political appointees).

New York Times Admits - The End of Paper is Nigh
Big Hat Tip to Strong Conservative
The New York Times owner has said that in five years they likely won't publish a printed paper.
The medium is the message - societies are defined by their means of communication - not its content. The key will be newsgathering - it is immensely expensive to maintain an organization to provide news. Thats why there's an AP or Reuters.
The edge for blogs will come from people on the scene - any scene. News happens everywhere all at once. Local bureaus, news services can't do it. They're not in a war zone when something happens, nor in Easton, PA when a child falls down a well. Bloggers are. This medium (a personal and published news gathering and distribution system) will end up being the source of all knowledge in real time. Big Media will even rely on bloggers. Will there be bias? Yes. But bloggers are far better at identifying their specific biases than big media.

Clean Air Act - Were Tories Right the First Time?
Recent revelations regarding the IPCC Report (here) suggest the Tories might have been right by at first proposing a bill that would not restrict greenhouse gas emissions until 2020/2025. The CPC might just want to hold off on saying anything now, that might be proven wrong in the future, when they were right initially.
On the other hand, maybe the first version of the Clean Air Act was based on facts, instead of the lack of wisdom of the United Nations supporting masses which the media and politics are making them develop compliant policy on.
Because you see, scientists (not the political authors of the IPCC draft) are suggesting that by 2025, we will be entering a cooling period. (Here's a link from the Ruskies who know a thing or two about the cold.)
PEOPLE, we might need that extra CO2 to keep from freezing our asses off (not that CO2 has anything to do with global warming).
And I for one (among I suspect billions of others) would much prefer windsurfing in Hudson Bay to skating on Lake Okeebeechee.

We Are Being Lied to by the IPCC
Thanks to CBL visitor Fred.
A report released under the auspices of the Center for Science and Public Policy reveals facts that even more fully debunk the entire IPCC study than does the Fraser Institute.
The first dramatic revelation in this study is that the data in the 2006 IPCC study in fact shows that the global environment has in fact stabilized or improved!!
Yet the IPCC's Executive Summary clearly concludes that the situation is much worse.
This is at best a misrepresentation, if not an outright lie by this United Nations body (not that the UN has not been most distinguished by its lack of integrity).
Here are a few key points in he CSPP Report (download here).

- Previous reports in 1990, 1995 and 2001 had been progressively more alarmist. In the final draft of the new report there is a change in tone. Though carbon dioxide in the air is increasing, global temperature is not.
- Figures from the US National Climate Data Center show 2006 as about 0.03 degrees Celsius warmer worldwide than 2001. Since that is within the range of measurement error, global temperature has not risen in a statistically significant sense since the UN’s last report in 2001.
- In the current draft, the UN has cut its estimate of our net effect on climate by more than a third, to 1.6 watts per square metre.
- The UN’s best estimate of projected temperature increase in response to CO2 reaching 560 parts per million, twice the level in 1750, was 3.5C in the 2001 report. Now it is down to 3C.
- The 2007 draft concludes that it is very likely that we caused most of the rise in temperatures since 1940. It does not point out that for half that period, from 1940 to 1975, temperature actually fell even though carbon dioxide rose monotonically – higher every year than the previous year.
This Fraser Institute Report Must Be Read and Widely Distributed.

Independent Summary for Policymakers:
IPCC Fourth Assessment Report
Publication Date: February 2007
The Independent Summary for Policymakers is a detailed and thorough overview of the state of climate change science as laid out in the UN International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) draft report. This independent summary has been reviewed by more than 50 scientists around the world and their views on its balance and reliability are tabulated for readers. It carefully connects summary paragraphs to the chapters and sections of the IPCC report from which they are drawn, allowing readers to refer directly to what is in the IPCC Report, including:
• Data collected by weather satellites since 1979 continue to exhibit little evidence of atmospheric warming, with estimated trends ranging from nearly zero to the low end of past IPCC forecasts. There is no significant warming in the tropical troposphere (the lowest portion of the Earth’s atmosphere), which accounts for half the world’s atmosphere, despite model predictions that warming should be amplified there.
• Temperature data collected at the surface exhibits an upward trend from 1900 to 1940, and again from 1979 to the present. Trends in the Southern Hemisphere are small compared to those in the Northern Hemisphere.
• There is no compelling evidence that dangerous or unprecedented changes are underway. Perceptions of increased extreme weather events are potentially due to increased reporting. There is too little data to reliably confirm these perceptions.
• There is no globally-consistent pattern in long-term precipitation trends, snow-covered area, or snow depth. Arctic sea ice thickness showed an abrupt loss prior to the 1990s, and the loss stopped shortly thereafter. There is insufficient data to conclude that there are any trends in Antarctic sea ice thickness.
• Current data suggest a global mean sea level rise of between two and three millimeters per year. Models project an increase of roughly 20 centimeters over the next 100 years, if accompanied by a warming of 2.0 to 4.5 degrees Celsius.
• Natural climatic variability is now believed to be substantially larger than previously estimated, as is the uncertainty associated with historical temperature reconstructions.
• Attributing an observed climate change to a specific cause like greenhouse gas emissions is not formally possible, and therefore relies on computer model simulations. These attribution studies do not take into account the basic uncertainty about climate models, or all potentially important influences like aerosols, solar activity, and land use changes.
• Computer models project a range of future forecasts, which are inherently uncertain for the coming century, especially at the regional level. It is not possible to say which, if any, of today’s climate models are reliable for climate prediction and forecasting.
It debunks any value of the IPCC Executive Summary (which was released several months in advance of the actual report preventing external review and criticism).

Goldstein on Global Warming
Lorrie's so bang on it's silly.
"Finally, responsible scientists are not the people screaming in our ears that we're all going to die from the weather in a few years, that the evil western nations and all of us living in them who caused this must be punished, and that anyone who disagrees with them is a climate change 'denier,' the implication being that they are little better than someone who denies the Holocaust -- an absurd, unjust and morally revolting comparison. The only thing I could add to this is that these laypeople who have absolutely no scientific credentials whatsoever demand that the general public accept their totally uninformed and misinformed theories, while they demand that the theories of laypeople who deny Climate Change theory not ever be heard or considered.

Climate Geeks Jump The Shark
What next? Add Chachi and Susie Quattro to the cast?
The IPCC's latest conclusion is that global warming is "very likely" to be anthropogenic, based upon the exact data they had in 2001 when they declared that global warming was "likely" caused by mankind.
Have somehow the temperature data over the last million years changed?
And despite the fact that they have declared that this climate change is irreversible they still want humans to revert to lifestyles akin to the Amish.
I sense fear (that they have realized that no more can be said and no more climate conferences need be held and no more media attention received) and I think the media sense blood.
This story is over - now that the world is definitely dying, and now that it's sure that we killed it, and now that there's nothing that can be done, this dog don't hunt no more.
The media will need to move on to other baubles and trinkets to fascinate the herd of cats that is western humanity. And as likely or not, they'll point their pens at these scientists and start looking at reporting the other side of the story.
There's already signs with the recent stories at the National Post and I've heard and read some other similar chatter in the last few days from the MSM.
I think that the IPCC sowed wind and will be reaping whirlwind before they know it.

The Horoscope for the Planet - Hat Tip to IPCC
As an earth sign, you are well balanced and have great depth. Many people speak badly of you, but your resilience never fails to surprise them, or yourself. Sometimes you feel like you are a mother to everyone, but there are limits to your patience and sometimes you get feel frustrated but you always manage to work through it.
Your 2050's will be dry, perhaps very dry, perhaps not. You will have periods of wetness, but overall your sunny disposition will allow you to deal with anything. By 2100, you will have rid yourself of all the flealike humans that populate your surface, but even if they don't survive, you will.
More than anything else, beware of false prophets - trust your instinct.
As you approach your third billionth year, be conservative and avoid any bangs of any kind, big or not.

I am a CO2 Generator!!
I can't help myself...
I scan a IPCC study on Climate Change, and I sigh (CO2 emission).
Then I see Harry Forestall explain that the end is nigh because of our selfish use of natural resources , and I groan (CO2 emission).
I see a bunch of hippies and do-gooder, media hungry scientists expressing their hatred of the human species and I can't help it. I yawn (CO2 emission).
Stop me before I breathe again.
Save the planet from me while you still can!!!

Global Warming - Revenge of the Nerds
The latest word from "experts" provided their credibility by the most incompetent, most corrupt and most discredited organization in the world (the United Nations) is:
This from introverted, overeducated little pissants whom, if you invited to a BBQ, would stand in the corner feeding squirrels or staring at their shoes. The global warming theory gives them (a) a feeling of power, (b) chances to attend conferences, (c) chances to get honoraria and publish articles and (d) make whoopy with hippy chicks.
I, for one would LOVE to fry under the sun. And so would millions of other Canadians who prove this by travelling close to the equator every chance they get.
I won't go into the argument that no one on the "the end is near" side of the theory offers any data on the possible positive prospects of global warming (increased food production and alleviation of world hunger).
But I will postulate something else.
If we and our "planet" are doomed, if the end is truly near, than let's live it up.
When the Roman Empire was about to fall, did Caligula start obsessing with cleaning up his act, refusing to indulge in bacchinalia or the pursuit of young flesh? Hell no! He went out with a bang (so to speak).
So should we.
Fellow Humans...
Given our unhappy future, I call for all of us is to pursue with all the passion and with all the energy we can muster (and with steadily improving tans) a massive and long term commitment to absolute debauchery.
no matter how much civilization slows or reduces its greenhouse gas emissions, global warming and sea level rise will continue on for centuriesThis conclusion after noodling for hours over whether to tell the world that this was a 90% or 97% certainty.

Suzuki on our Prime Minister
Thanks to George Strombo, the CBC, and the "Hour"
"He is so far up Mr. Bush's Backside."
What next? Accuse our Elected Prime Minister of receiving a golden shower from GWB or frolicking in a hot tub with him?
Suzuki lacks credibility by such comments. He should be appreciated as irrational and irrelevant; as fanatical and Quixotic as Bin Laden or Chavez.
Meanwhile, Stephane calls Stephen "Fat", with no editorial comment by any MSM.
Imagine, for a moment, Harper referring to Dion as ugly...
Would the silence from the media be as deafening?
Then again, it is traditional political messaging strategy as taught to me by a Liberal spin maestro: "He says you're fat, you say he's bald."
