Mr. Miller, who has the power to call a special council meeting, told reporters yesterday that councillors should have known what the stakes were on Monday when they put off his proposal.
Acting like a child, petulent, angry stamping his feet.

All understand that Miller (who is going to decide on the cuts himself) will make those that seem to hurt the most. He will not touch his pampered union workforce to whom he gave jobs for life and an annual 3% wage increase after he was elected in 2003.
Also understand that David Miller (and Howard Moscoe and almost half of the current Council) are in the pockets of the city unions.

Miller AGAIN Closes DVP

Organizers said Sunday's event drew a total of 12,000 cyclists and in-line skaters and raised more than $2.7 million through pledges.
Okay. Each person raised about 200 bucks and they closed down the DVP which carries about 30,000 people on a Sunday. How much more or less would have been raised if they had done this thing for heart anywhere else? Likely the same. But Miller again pissed off about 30,000 people.

Where should fingers be pointed?
Indeed, at a system. If fingers are to be pointed, point them at the Mayor and Council of the City of Toronto and at the Provincial government that have decided to warehouse poor immigrant families in gang factories. Underserve the communities and don't provide positive outlets or opportunities. Let poor kids without hope only be given the opportunity to hang around other poor kids without hope.
It is our local system that is at fault here. Miller and McGuinty are responsible for housing and education. They are the ones that are warehousing poor kids in neighbourhoods where the dream is to flash around wads of cash.
Would anyone who might read this deny the benefits for our city of spending the money needed to provide housing that is clean and safe and provides an expectation of hope? (Don't point to the 'new' Regent Park- this is replicating the existing disaster.)
We should also point our fingers at poverty activists who march on Rosedale demanding more high density, no income housing that are the kilns that harden kids.

Dave - I know you're kinda thick when it comes to putting things into practice.
But there's a little problem - generating the electricity to charge the million or so batteries in these electric cars if this really catches on. (Unlikely because it is, after all, a Miller idea.)
Did you forget that you are also trying to cancel the new power station on the waterfront and that only a couple of years ago we had a massive power failure and that the costs of providing power are going through the roof and that the provision of power is one of those big CO2 spewing things that you hate so much.

David Miller Really, Really Hates Cars

I encountered these over the last few weeks.
Last night, alone, going 5 mph, I bottomed out.
Maybe should send him a bill for a new oil pan. But seeing as how his union garbage workers won't even pick up garbage, I doubt very much he'd do anything.
Arrrrgggh.
A mayor that doesn't provide decent roads, doesn't provide an acceptable transit system, doesn't pick up garbage, leaves the streets dirty and littered with pan handlers, doesn't provide housing for poor people, has sinkholes regularly appearing on roads, and wants to tax us to death and someone re-elects him in huge numbers.

David Miller Wows Empty Seats in New York at Green City Shindig

I'm sure he was a smashing success and Bubba Clinton, Red Ken Livingston and Michael Bloomberg are just as adoring as Miller's millions of minions in Toronto. Not.

While fellow politicians packed Mr. Livingstone's seminar on "beating congestion and surviving your next election," none attended the concurrent session where Toronto Mayor David Miller introduced his plan for a Web-based program to encourage individuals to reduce personal emissions.

Earth Day Establishes Smog Records in Toronto

Today, in Toronto, the Gardiner Expressway is closed.
Now I don't know if this was for Earth Day or for repairs.
But it is Earth Day, and this would be a good day to measure smog effect, because I cannot imagine it can ever be worse.
Some Torontonians likely know that David Miller is Mayor. And some of those who know this, know that he wants to tear down the Gardiner Expressway and replace it with an 8 lane Lake Shore Boulevarde.
And some who know point one and point two know that he also wants to close two lanes of the four lane Queen's Quay Boulevarde and plant grass.
Well today we almost saw what this would be like (the Gardiner was closed but Queen's Quay wasn't). And there has never been so much stalled traffic in my 22 years here. Queen's Quay, Lakeshore. Front St., King St. and Queen St. were backed up their entire length.
A cross downtown trip that normally takes ten minutes took an hour.
Thanks for voting for David Miller, you turkeys.

Toronto Garbage Brownshirts in Action

I think most (likely all) of the BTs have very little desire to ever have to trust socialist politicians.
At best, in all cases they have proven to be incompetent. At worst, almost all totalitarian governments in history have claimed to be socialist - "peoples'" republic, national "socialists" etc.
Socialists want to control your lives in every possible way and give them all your money. Tell you what to drive, how to live, how to act, what to eat.

In Toronto, we have a garbage crisis. But rather than come up with a solution that takes into account the nature, needs and preferences of human beings, the socialists in control of the City of Toronto want to force residents to follow their commands on how things must be done. (Quotes from here).

The old fascist solution - "re-educate", then "penalize".

Now what are Torontonians doing exactly?
Why, they're putting garbage in garbage cans.
But, you see, People are TOO Stupid to do what the socialists want them to do:

They're even putting dog crap in garbage cans (where else would they wish it to be put)?

Dog droppings also are a major problem at city parks. One large, steel trash bin at Humber Bay Shores Park was found to have 7.2 kilograms of dog feces.

But, they have a solution for this, too...

It also says the city could require park users to carry pet waste out of the park with them.

So the best idea that the city socialists have for dog shit is to have dog owners fill their pockets with it until they get home.

For this, they're raising our property taxes by what they call "the inflation rate".
But, not the REAL inflation rate - that's about 1.8%
But by THEIR inflation rate - 3.8%.
Because you see their costs go up higher and faster than everyone elses.
So they need more of our money.
Because they are incompetent socialists.

More NDP Hypocrisy on Environment

Now it's well know that David Miller has his eyes on Howie Hampton's job, though I think he really wants to take Jack's. And that he LOVEs big city government and paying unions as much as possible in jobs for life without any performance measurement or sanctions.
Now his latest adventure outside of the terms of reference of city government is his Green City Plan.
Now how David Do-Good is going to separate our gases from Mississauga's gases, I don't know. But frankly, his plan sounds like Jack Layton's bid to make Toronto a Nuclear Free Zone. Anyway, I digress.

You know the NDP, doncha? Well, Davie is one and they are demanding stringent targets to reduce greenhouse gases and for them to take effect immediately to see results by 2012.

Given the NDP's strident demands for immediate action by the CPC Federal Government, shouldn't the largest NDP-run jurisdiction in Canada demand for itself what they demand from the Feds?

Well, no.

"The report doesn't list specific environmental targets, but Mayor David Miller on Thursday said he wanted to slash the city's greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2020 and a whopping 80 per cent by 2050."

By which times, I expect David will be (a) well out of office for the first target and (b) dead for the second and likely not held accountable for making Toronto a ghost town.

A View of Our Socialist Toronto Future

Here in Toronto it is well known that the current City Council (which is 2/3 NDP) thinks that cars are a scourge. And considerably more than half the people who vote in civic elections agree (why needs to be the subject of another battle in another year).
The past ten days have revealed what our transportation future looks like under socialist rule. Gas yesterday was $1.02/l, when a few weeks ago it was $0.82. A shortage of gas as a result of the perfect storm of a fire at a refinery, heavy snowstorms and a CN Rail strike meant that there was a shortage of auto fuel in Toronto.
In other words, for city socialists, it was nirvana - drivers were severely inconvenienced.
Today the Gardiner expressway was closed due to ice (ain't global warming great) and a tragic accident, so traffic was rerouted onto Lakeshore and then onto the Queensway, King St. (which was also closed in a section), Queen St. and even Dundas. It was bumper to bumper going west all the way to Kipling. A twenty minute trip took over an hour.
Miller's Minion's proposals are designed to make this scenario permanent. They want to raise taxes on gasoline, charge congestion taxes downtown, and close two lanes to cars on all major thoroughfares for dedicated streetcar lanes. This without providing mass transit that will actually move people around the GTA.
Get used to this morning, people, coz when David Miller continues to get his way, this will become the future state of transportation in Toronto.

The End of the World as I Know It

Dems get elected, Al Qaeda claims victory.
Wandering through the streets of Toronto, and hearing that David Miller was a virtual lock to win as Mayor, and after thinking through what will likely happen in the Middle East with a real Nancy in charge of the House and the Dems running the Senate, I decided to give up and enjoy things while I can.
Toronto's traffic will be standing still, I will continue to get about $200 / month in tickets for parking in front of my own house, I will be getting even more nasty yellow notes from my garbage collector for desposing of more than 20km of wet waste and not following all the recycling rules, the bums will not hesitate to knock on my door to beg for money - it's their right (doncha know). Toronto will become more like Belgrade.
I'll steer clear of the subway, tall buildings and large collections of people because the islamofreaks will be bringing the war to us.
So, I'm gonna drink up and be merry.

Meanwhile, John Moore on CFRB is having a special celebrating veterans from WW2. Which is good. But then he slaps around all those who celebrate the attempts to do for Iraq and Afstan what we did for the French, Germans and Dutch, et al fifty odd years ago.
Ain't this finely hypcritical.

AM 640 and CFRB

When Paul Martin, Daltin McG and David Miller got together a week or so ago to announce their next futile attempt to stop Jamaican posse members from murdering innocents in Toronto, ultimately their empty statements were ignored.
Today, after Stephen Harper spoke in Toronto, AM640 with Charles Adler and CFRB for the duration of the John Moore show focussed entirely on crime and guns in Toronto.
This is a huge sign (along with recent Star reports) that the Conservatives are the leading and accepted choice for Canada.
Canada is about to move back into a reality that offers the opportunity to achieve our potential, to achieve our destinty.
I am glad and proud to be a Canadian, again.
