What If We Didn't Have Climate Scientists?

I've been going through the comments on THIS blog from a prof at Harvard.
I asked myself, "Self, what if we didn't have anyone measuring ice in the Antarctic Continent and the width of trees in Oregon. What if we didn't hear all the chatter about Anthropological Global Warming. What if the temperature went up 2 deg C in the next 100 years. What would we do?"
And I answered myself, "we'd likely build big dykes around the big cities on the ocean and a lot of us would move inland. In the winter we'd go to Han Island for a week."
