"Gore spokesperson Kalee Kreider said he buys enough "green power" – renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and methane gas – to balance 100 per cent of electricity costs."
Gore participates in a utility program that sells blocks of "green power" for an extra $4 a month. He buys 108 such blocks every month, covering 16,200 kilowatt-hours and helping subsidize renewable energy sources.
"Sometimes when people don't like the message, in this case that global warming is real, it's convenient to attack the messenger," she said. "
Gore has been buying the "green power" for $432 a month since November, and his home is also under renovation to add solar panels, Kreider said. (Ed. what about before Nov? obviously he and his followers are not stupid hypocrites))
"It is however, okay for people who fight against the global corporate over consumption to attack those who disagree", she added.

Eco Movement Needs a Reformation
I really wish I had thought of this first.
I mean, I consider myself a bit of a religious scholar (if amateur and only focussed on Christianity).
And I have spent many hours with people (especially Roman Cathlolics in Quebec) discussing the Reformation and the protestant movement; the split and its reasons. And God knows how suspicious I am of the Green movement.
One of the most significant reasons for the Reformation by those such as Knox, Wycliff, Luther and Calvin was the selling of indulgences.
Sinners were allowed to pay cash (or precious jewels or land) to priests for sins; as slight as taking the Lord's name in vain to as serious as murder.
It got really bad about 450 years ago when nobles would actually pay for indulgences in advance. They would ask a priest, for example, "What would it cost, Father, for me to be absolved of my sins if I were to kill Lord Greystroke?"
The deal would be struck with the murderer knowing in advance of his sin what it would cost and that he would not be condemned to eternal damnation for his act.
Many commentators have drawn a comparison between Ecology Protection and a religion or a cult.
And this is an easy comparison to make: ecology types have their doctrines, their catechisms, their inquisitions.
Their high priests also sell indulgences.
Both Al Gore and Dave Suzuki make a point of explaining how they are contributing literally hundreds of dollars to get off the hook for the harm that their private jets and buses are doing to the environment.
Back then, a movement led to hundreds of millions of believers abandoning their fielty to the Roman Catholic Church. Will we see that happen now with the greeniacs?

A few years ago a friend of mind advised of how she had travelled from London to Washington with Al Gore in a private jet in the 80's. As well as determining from experience that Al was a lech, she learned that she was flying in Armand Hammer's private plane.

And he claims he uses renewable energy credits to offset the pollution he produces when using a private jet to promote his film. (In reality, Paramount Classics, the film's distributor, pays this.)
Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-sf home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.
Then there is the troubling matter of his energy use. In the Washington, D.C., area, utility companies offer wind energy as an alternative to traditional energy. In Nashville, similar programs exist. Utility customers must simply pay a few extra pennies per kilowatt hour, and they can continue living their carbon-neutral lifestyles knowing that they are supporting wind energy. Plenty of businesses and institutions have signed up. Even the Bush administration is using green energy for some federal office buildings, as are thousands of area residents.
But according to public records, there is no evidence that Gore has signed up to use green energy in either of his large residences. When contacted Wednesday, Gore's office confirmed as much but said the Gores were looking into making the switch at both homes. Talk about inconvenient truths.
Gore has held these apocalyptic views about the environment for some time. So why, then, didn't Gore dump his family's large stock holdings in Occidental (Oxy) Petroleum? As executor of his family's trust, over the years Gore has controlled hundreds of thousands of dollars in Oxy stock. Oxy has been mired in controversy over oil drilling in ecologically sensitive areas.
Living carbon-neutral apparently doesn't mean living oil-stock free. Nor does it necessarily mean giving up a mining royalty either.
Humanity might be "sitting on a ticking time bomb," but Gore's home in Carthage is sitting on a zinc mine. Gore receives $20,000 a year in royalties from Pasminco Zinc, which operates a zinc concession on his property. Tennessee has cited the company for adding large quantities of barium, iron and zinc to the nearby Caney Fork River.

Albert Gore is about to win an Academy Award for a film that might best qualify for Best Fictionalized Version of a Series of Unsubstantiated Events.
And with his ego, I suspect he will love his little statuette much more that he does his children or wife. It will surely be in a place of honour at his home, be in the background of every picture taken of him, and replace "used to be the next President of the United States" in his introductions. Okay, nor replace, but precede.
I remember a biography of Gore on PBS back when he was running for POTUS, and the story of him un-inviting his father from participating in his Senate campaign (because his Dad had lost the Senate seat in the previous election) and his ratting out football teammates at Yale for breaking curfew. So from that point on, although I had liked Bill Clinton, I could never support his backstabbing Veep.
Gore's film has been subjected to considerable professional criticism for its lack of accuracy. Most recently here (ht to Celestial Junk).
Given the fact that Al, may be slightly stretching the truth on Anthropogenic Global Warming, and taking into account his disputed claim to invention of the internet and his significant role in the Campaign Financing Scandal, ("I didn't do it and I promise never to do it again"), I wonder what else is out there about he who is determined to safe us from ourselves, whether we want him to or not?

CBC Censorship Week - Again Proves Hypocrisy
I learned this morning that this is censorship week on the Ceeb. I think that they’re not in favour of it, although they didn’t mention the Egyptian blogger doing time nor the banning of Bibles in Saudi Arabia, nor the Falun Gong in China. I guess, really, it was "Censorship in Canada and the USA Week".
One show this morning focussed on an FDA director who resigned because her superiors refused to fast track approval of the day after pill. Fair enough, although I was not convinced it was a censorship issue.
Quirks and Quarks, of course, talked about science being affected by politics and by corporate sponsorship and mentioned global warming. To Bob Macdonald’s credit he did query his interview subject on conflicts of interest by proponents of AGW. And the response was fair in that the guest said that the way science works best is when other scientists critically review the conclusions of others. The circle wasn’t squared, though, because the ostracization of AGW “deniers” was not followed up on.
But, back to my main theme, the Ceeb criticizing censorship at all. Because perhaps the most egregious example of censorship in Canada in recent memory was by the CBC itself. What About Michael Coren?
Read about it here, but basically, conservative commentator Michael Coren was initially booked to appear on CBC News Sunday with Evan Solomon and Carole MacNeil, but his appearance was cancelled fifteen hours before by CBC producer Ghazala Malik. Coren's closing comment in his report on this is particularly powerful given the CBC's self-righteous fight against censorship: "People used to run away to sea. Now they run away to the CBC. Well, at least the ones who don't like freedom of speech do so. "
I am a frequent critic of the CBC for its philosophical selectivity in its choice of guests and subject matter “experts”. So I won’t reiterate this. Nor will I even bother criticizing their not reporting on a non-North American world of people dying because of their state’s non allowance of free speech, or even how they managed to make a Stephen Harper joke while they were at it.
But CBC is again hypocritical for not looking within itself to be sure (or admit) that they are not without sin, and should not be busy casting stones..

"Rights" More Important Than Public Safety - Update
At the moment the victors (including these supporters and intervenors such as) of the Supreme Court decision relative to Security Certificates are hooting enthusiastically on Newsworld. Since they are victors, this presumes there are losers. And said losers are those of us who are concerned about those committed to the destruction of our society and are using OUR laws to do so. The winners include Amnesty International (who also believe that Abortion Laws are a violation of human rights), any number of UN agencies and terrorist groups with all forms of hatred of western secular society.
"Other totalitarian states such as Australia will be forced to change their laws", said Adil Charkaoui, who is suspected of being an Al Qaida supporter.
The announcement was politicized by the comment by the Civil Liberties spokesperson who explained to watchers that, "thankfully this decision cannot be challenged by the minority conservative government."
How will Canadians like Liberal appointed judges when the bomb goes off?

CBC Bias Always Reflected in Their Choice of "Experts"
Tuesday we commented on the CBC's use of a spokesperson from the eco-lobbyist to speak on climate change (with a footnote on their use of the Polaris Institute to comment on military issues).
Today their report on the use of animals for training of military medics was reviewed. Of course there was a huge hew and cry about this from the chatterers - they were apoplectic that pigs were shot and medics then practiced by repairing the wounds. Can you imagine! Canadian animals are being used to save the lives of soldiers fighting an immoral war!
Notwithstanding the fact that we on a daily basis kill millions of animals and eat them.
Back to my point.
This morning the "expert" du jour was Dr. Kerry Bowman, who was introduced as a "Medical Ethicist".
Indeed he claims himself to be such. But, on the other side of the equation he is an animal rights activist and was a speaker at this conference of the University Coalition of Animal Rights and the Environment.
I will not lay blame on Dr. Bowman for appearing on the program, I will blame the CBC for continuing to use conflicted "experts" without either identifying possible conflicts of interest or inviting a counterpoint speaker.

Suzuki & AGW Lapdog Economist in Toronto - Update
No doubt warming up a frigid Toronto for Al Gore's visit in a couple of days (assuming an ice storm doesn't cause another cancelation), Kooky Suzuki and his high priest of global warming economics, Nicholas Stern, today honoured his supplicants with a visit to the cathedral of Canadian Capitalism, the Toronto Stock Exchange.
I caught a few moments of their media conference on CP24; Dr. Stern was introduced as former Chief Economist of the World Bank and "recognized by some as the leading expert on the economic effects of global warming".
Who are these some that recognize Stern as such? I cynically wonder.
I suppose Suzuki is in this group of some and Mo Strong, given Stern's leadership of a corrupt twin of the United Nations.

Mo Strong uses institutions to reward friends and manipulate people.
He did this for Paul Martin with Canada Steamship. There have been rumors that he was responsible for JJ Chretien getting a seven figure contract with the Iranian Oil Ministry after leaving the PMs job.
He did this for David Suzuki's daughter - getting her a special advisory position for the UN Secretary General.
I'm not going to speculate of all the implications of this. The BT audience has far greater imagination (and research capability) than does this simple blue lemon.

Personality Disorder Resulting in Policy on the Fly?
I got a suspicion that what is seen of Stephane Dion on TV reveals what could be seen if there was a way of looking inside his head.
I think he's enormously insecure and suspicious of others if not a little paranoid. This is reflected in his tendency to fly off the handle when he's challenged.
His imaginery environmental mentorship with a neighbour who supposedly invited young Stef to accompany him on his walks in the woods (the guy denies this ever happened) is a sign of delusionalism.
His early affection for separatism followed by the acquisition of a French citizenship suggests that he's always been in search of an identity.
The end result is the complete and utter chaos that is the Liberal caucus and the complete disarray in their policy statements. It looks to me like he is desperately trying to always prove himself right, and everyone else always wrong.
He may think that he's wedging himself against his adversary, but by always arguing against everything that the PM does he's just cornering himself into unsupportable positions.
I think he's running his own strategy and policy activities and ignoring any input from anyone else.

Comment Moderation Enabled Due to AGW Response
I've been assailed today with comments from anthropogenic global warming activists and have turned on comment moderation to limit the amount of grief I have to deal with and limit the use of my blog for others' PR purposes.
I will approve any reasonable posts.
I'm waiting for a camo-clad Greenpeace SWAT team to zip down from a silent green chopper to shut me up.
Maybe twelve year old Greenpeace boys who are going to kill some, but not all adults, for destroying the planet. (Although surely even Al Gore has at some time released some noxious emissions.)
As contained in some other posts, the greens are pros at PR and manipulating public opinion. They are aggressively and abusively discrediting anyone who publicizes ideas or observations that disagree with theirs.
One approach being used is for them to speciously discredit opponents, and then refer to these specious discreditations at a later point to evidence the lack of credibility of the opponent.

Anyone wanna help organize an Anti Inconvenient Truth protest in Toronto when Albert Gore speaks at the UofT?
I would anticipate trying to get a few dozen shrill placard carriers out and hopefully, a name brand climatology expert to speak at a news conference.
I'm not gonna do a Quixote on this - if there's enough support, I'll work on coordinating this, if not I won't. I'm a busy dude, but I think this is a good chance to get some media to pay attention to the other side of the tale.

Where I come from, this makes the entire exercise Marxist and not scientific.

This is untrue - he is a fierce opponent of the current executive branch of the USA and still has plans to run as President of the United States. This film and book is a political exercise for him to gain develop support for his personal interests.
- The film never compares the benefits of our lifestyle to alternatives: as it is, it alleviates hunger and poverty, extends life spans and makes life enabling medicines, food and other resources to all parts of the world. A cost benefit analysis is not represented.
- It does not consider the possible positive effects of a warmer planet and its effect upon the reduced demand for fossil fuels for heating and the huge increase in food production and resulting possible reduction in global hunger.
- It neglects to report that deaths due to extreme weather events have declined dramatically overall in the last hundred years.
- It apportions considerable blame to western countries on a relative basis, comparing the most modern and advanced society (at least two of which cover huge geographies) to the most agrarian and backward and often tiny nations.
- It impugns the so-called vested interests of global warming deniers, but never deniers the special benefits of those who promote the theory - including those who seek political office.
- It does not address the cost of implementing severe reductions in implementing a prospective emission plan such as the Kyoto Prototcol.
- The film implied that changes in CO2 levels preceed global warming when, if anything, the opposite is true.
- There was a bias in the scientists used to develop their consensus - sociologists were attributed equal credibility as climatologists and implied that a study that since 928 selected scientific abstracts did not deny Gore's postulation that this was evidence of the consensus.
- It reports that 48 Nobel Prize-winning scientists accused President Bush of distorting science, without informing that the scientists were members of a political group supporting John Kerry.
Exaggerations
- The film attributes the severity of tropical storms to global warming. There is absolutely no evidence of this.
- They blamed devastation of the polar bear population global warming based upon the drowning of four animals. The Polar Bear population in northern Canada is increasing overall.
- The collapse of the Larson_B Ice shelf in Antarctica is not a harbinger of doom. It was an irrelevant event considering the size of that continent.
- The film lies about more stringent fuel economy standards in China compared to the USA (they are 5% more stringent not 30%). They do not comment on whether these standards in China will be enforced.
- The film attributes the 37 inch downpour of July 2005 in Mumbai to global warming even though there is no trend of such events in the area for almost fifty years.
- It blames global warming for floods in China not advising that far more serious floods were evident over 100 years ago.
- Global warming is blamed for the disappearance of Lake Chad which is more likely a result of increased population and consumption by humans and animals.
- The film warns of how increase in CO2 levels will acidify and warm seawater resulting in elimination of coral reef construction. In fact these events would result in an increase in coral reef construction.

The medium is the message - societies are defined by their means of communication - not its content. The key will be newsgathering - it is immensely expensive to maintain an organization to provide news. Thats why there's an AP or Reuters.
The edge for blogs will come from people on the scene - any scene. News happens everywhere all at once. Local bureaus, news services can't do it. They're not in a war zone when something happens, nor in Easton, PA when a child falls down a well. Bloggers are. This medium (a personal and published news gathering and distribution system) will end up being the source of all knowledge in real time. Big Media will even rely on bloggers. Will there be bias? Yes. But bloggers are far better at identifying their specific biases than big media.

Clean Air Act - Were Tories Right the First Time?
Recent revelations regarding the IPCC Report (here) suggest the Tories might have been right by at first proposing a bill that would not restrict greenhouse gas emissions until 2020/2025. The CPC might just want to hold off on saying anything now, that might be proven wrong in the future, when they were right initially.
On the other hand, maybe the first version of the Clean Air Act was based on facts, instead of the lack of wisdom of the United Nations supporting masses which the media and politics are making them develop compliant policy on.
Because you see, scientists (not the political authors of the IPCC draft) are suggesting that by 2025, we will be entering a cooling period. (Here's a link from the Ruskies who know a thing or two about the cold.)
PEOPLE, we might need that extra CO2 to keep from freezing our asses off (not that CO2 has anything to do with global warming).

We Are Being Lied to by the IPCC

A report released under the auspices of the Center for Science and Public Policy reveals facts that even more fully debunk the entire IPCC study than does the Fraser Institute.
The first dramatic revelation in this study is that the data in the 2006 IPCC study in fact shows that the global environment has in fact stabilized or improved!!
Yet the IPCC's Executive Summary clearly concludes that the situation is much worse.
This is at best a misrepresentation, if not an outright lie by this United Nations body (not that the UN has not been most distinguished by its lack of integrity).

- Previous reports in 1990, 1995 and 2001 had been progressively more alarmist. In the final draft of the new report there is a change in tone. Though carbon dioxide in the air is increasing, global temperature is not.
- Figures from the US National Climate Data Center show 2006 as about 0.03 degrees Celsius warmer worldwide than 2001. Since that is within the range of measurement error, global temperature has not risen in a statistically significant sense since the UN’s last report in 2001.
- In the current draft, the UN has cut its estimate of our net effect on climate by more than a third, to 1.6 watts per square metre.
- The UN’s best estimate of projected temperature increase in response to CO2 reaching 560 parts per million, twice the level in 1750, was 3.5C in the 2001 report. Now it is down to 3C.
- The 2007 draft concludes that it is very likely that we caused most of the rise in temperatures since 1940. It does not point out that for half that period, from 1940 to 1975, temperature actually fell even though carbon dioxide rose monotonically – higher every year than the previous year.

Lorrie's so bang on it's silly.
"Finally, responsible scientists are not the people screaming in our ears that we're all going to die from the weather in a few years, that the evil western nations and all of us living in them who caused this must be punished, and that anyone who disagrees with them is a climate change 'denier,' the implication being that they are little better than someone who denies the Holocaust -- an absurd, unjust and morally revolting comparison.The only thing I could add to this is that these laypeople who have absolutely no scientific credentials whatsoever demand that the general public accept their totally uninformed and misinformed theories, while they demand that the theories of laypeople who deny Climate Change theory not ever be heard or considered.

Climate Geeks Jump The Shark
What next? Add Chachi and Susie Quattro to the cast?
The IPCC's latest conclusion is that global warming is "very likely" to be anthropogenic, based upon the exact data they had in 2001 when they declared that global warming was "likely" caused by mankind.
Have somehow the temperature data over the last million years changed?
And despite the fact that they have declared that this climate change is irreversible they still want humans to revert to lifestyles akin to the Amish.
I sense fear (that they have realized that no more can be said and no more climate conferences need be held and no more media attention received) and I think the media sense blood.
This story is over - now that the world is definitely dying, and now that it's sure that we killed it, and now that there's nothing that can be done, this dog don't hunt no more.
The media will need to move on to other baubles and trinkets to fascinate the herd of cats that is western humanity. And as likely or not, they'll point their pens at these scientists and start looking at reporting the other side of the story.
There's already signs with the recent stories at the National Post and I've heard and read some other similar chatter in the last few days from the MSM.
I think that the IPCC sowed wind and will be reaping whirlwind before they know it.

I see a bunch of hippies and do-gooder, media hungry scientists expressing their hatred of the human species and I can't help it. I yawn (CO2 emission).
Stop me before I breathe again.

Global Warming - Revenge of the Nerds
The latest word from "experts" provided their credibility by the most incompetent, most corrupt and most discredited organization in the world (the United Nations) is:
This conclusion after noodling for hours over whether to tell the world that this was a 90% or 97% certainty.
This from introverted, overeducated little pissants whom, if you invited to a BBQ, would stand in the corner feeding squirrels or staring at their shoes. The global warming theory gives them (a) a feeling of power, (b) chances to attend conferences, (c) chances to get honoraria and publish articles and (d) make whoopy with hippy chicks.
I, for one would LOVE to fry under the sun. And so would millions of other Canadians who prove this by travelling close to the equator every chance they get.
I won't go into the argument that no one on the "the end is near" side of the theory offers any data on the possible positive prospects of global warming (increased food production and alleviation of world hunger).
But I will postulate something else.
If we and our "planet" are doomed, if the end is truly near, than let's live it up.
When the Roman Empire was about to fall, did Caligula start obsessing with cleaning up his act, refusing to indulge in bacchinalia or the pursuit of young flesh? Hell no! He went out with a bang (so to speak).
So should we.
Fellow Humans...

Suzuki lacks credibility by such comments. He should be appreciated as irrational and irrelevant; as fanatical and Quixotic as Bin Laden or Chavez.
Meanwhile, Stephane calls Stephen "Fat", with no editorial comment by any MSM.
Imagine, for a moment, Harper referring to Dion as ugly...
Would the silence from the media be as deafening?

Babies.
BABIES ON A PLANE!!!
Imagine you're returning home from Hawaii, hung over, sun burnt and burned out.
And every second seat is occupied by BABIES!!
Squealing, muling, burping, puking, laughing, whining, dirty-diapered BABIES.
Creaping and crawling up and down the aisles, under chairs and hiding in the overhead bins. Relieving their painful teething gums on your loafers!
Each accompanied by their loving and totally unapologetic mothers and grannies, each child adored as being the greatest achievement in human procreative activity in history.
The bells, the bells... as these devoted guardians request special attention for their special little one, more juice, more wetnaps, more crackers. Line ups from the lavatory to the bulkhead of moms and grandmas waiting for their chance to change a diaper.
The HORROR!!

CFRB and Global Warming (with sidebars on Suzuki and the AP)
I don't spend my days and nights worrying about whether the world is getting warmer or not. Personally, I kinda dig not shovelling snow and don't spend much time hanging out with either penguins or polar bears. So my climate on this issue is ambient. I will admit to being willing to accept the principle that the world is a warmer place, with my evidence being walking to my car every morning.
Yesterday afternoon, with the kids out of school and remarkably little traffic, (which leads me to a conclusion that the best way to reduce smog is to home school kids and let govt employees work from home) John Moore of CFRB led a ferocious debate on Global Warming and that it is Anthrogenic (the fault of our species). I agree that the preponderance of commentary seems to agree with this state of the world (if not the preponderance of the evidence because I don't have the slightest inclination to develop the knowledge to be able to make this judgment).
A comment of John's stood out that I did take exception to. He said that "These scientists don't have any conflict of interest - they won't make any more money by saying what they say."
He is, of course, wrong.
Almost nothing (outside of physical beauty, natural talent or a drive to succeed) will make a person, scientist or not, more money than scaring the living bejeezus out of humanity.
A scientist who is on the leading edge of an idea that promises to detroy the world, make him famous, offer lecture opportunities from Vladivostok to Miami Beach, allow him to appear on CNN, start a website and write a book will surely milk this idea for all it's worth.
Case in point, our own David Suzuki, who has been riding this pony since before the invention of the catalytic converter (and was against global cooling before he was against global warming). And, Albert Gore, similarly back in his comfort zone, pretending that he discovered Global Warming, much the way he invented the internet.
The two are connected in this article by Suzuki on July 20, 2006 in the Environmental News Network.
Suzuki, in this pieces criticizes the huge weight of the PR spin unleashed by opponents of the global warming shibbolith as reflected in Gore's movie 'An Inconvenient Truth'.
Being the sad sack of a cynic I am, I needed to look at Suzuki's source info to understand whether he is being entirely truthful, or just conveniently so.
Of course, I discovered that the do-good doctor was himself spinning poetically first by using the opinion of Rotten Tomatoes visitors on the film as proving general acceptance of its premises (hardly a poll of any validity - talk about responder bias). And then referring to an article by the Associated Press. This supportive piece draws conclusions on the basis of 19 scientists who had seen the film and were made available for questions. One doesn't need to wonder where they stood on the issue prior to their screening. Anyone can see the lack of validity of quoting this source - a scientist providing a journalist credibility by quoting as a source of fact is rich by itself.
And last, Dr. Suzuki credits "one of the largest PR firms in Western Canada" for leading a campaign to stop this vicious attack on thing he holds dear. Once again, of course, Dr. S. fails to note that he has been a client of this firm for many years, and that it is evident that its principal shares David's environmental philosophy.
My question to David is, one I often ask, is who's zooming who?
One other thing. While I don't think that everyone who believes in anthrogenic global warming believes in 911 conspiracies, I do think that all 911 conspiracy freaks are devoted global warming geeks. Take this comment as you wish.

The Man In The Arena
Given this is two days after Remembrance Day and is municipal election day, and given that many honest and true people will have run for election unsuccessfully after being whipped by powerful (leftwing) campaigns I offer Teddy Roosevelt's famous speech made in Paris on April 23, 1910:
It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

Why Cats are Better Than Ants...
Little off theme, but then again, having laboured for six months to overthrow a government, I am whimsical this evening...
Henry Gibson said, "because they don't squish when you pet them."
Also, because they maintain their dignity, with poop on their paws, or just having fallen off a chair, or having knocked over a vase. We don't notice ant poop, can't see them drop off a chair, and they can upend only very small vases.
Aha, the tory-poli-link - Liberal leadership candidates find it impossible to maintain their dignity. This post is hereby justified...
Two cats shed more hair than a whole herd of wildebeests, eat more that a murder of crows and crap more in a day than the world's population of ants.
Cats demand attention far more than ants. And show their high regard for this better. And demand it much more.
Ants can lift hundreds of times their own weight, but cats are smart enough not to not to even try this when they have these sasquatchs around that feed and groom them and lift anything heavy that needs to be lifted.
Cats are smart little buggers.
Any other cat fanciers out there that care to build on this?

The End of the World as I Know It
Dems get elected, Al Qaeda claims victory.
Wandering through the streets of Toronto, and hearing that David Miller was a virtual lock to win as Mayor, and after thinking through what will likely happen in the Middle East with a real Nancy in charge of the House and the Dems running the Senate, I decided to give up and enjoy things while I can.
Toronto's traffic will be standing still, I will continue to get about $200 / month in tickets for parking in front of my own house, I will be getting even more nasty yellow notes from my garbage collector for desposing of more than 20km of wet waste and not following all the recycling rules, the bums will not hesitate to knock on my door to beg for money - it's their right (doncha know). Toronto will become more like Belgrade.
I'll steer clear of the subway, tall buildings and large collections of people because the islamofreaks will be bringing the war to us.
So, I'm gonna drink up and be merry.
Meanwhile, John Moore on CFRB is having a special celebrating veterans from WW2. Which is good. But then he slaps around all those who celebrate the attempts to do for Iraq and Afstan what we did for the French, Germans and Dutch, et al fifty odd years ago.
Ain't this finely hypcritical.

Wisdom in Galactica
Just watching this very cool program.
Ya see the good guys had a hero pilot down and the commanders were hell bent to send in a rescue mission.
The President urged them to reconsider and they would not. Finally they were persuaded by her statement that, "You are honorable and intelligent men. If you feel that the lives of 45,000 people and the future of mankind is worth the life of one pilot, than the human race has no chance of survival."
Rings a bell as far as our situations in Iraq and Afstan, doesn't it?
ps - in the end, she saves her own life through initiative, endeavour, intelligence and guts.

9 or 10
I'm watching Hockey a People's History.
I wish I had my little number 9 Canadiens jersey.
I was five years old when I became a Canadiens fanatic, Rocket was in his last year. My Dad bought me a Habs jersey and my little brother a Maple Leafs one.
I have stayed a Habs fan. Les Glorieux. Les Canadiens sont La!
My little brother is dead, but he was and is still, I'm sure, also a Habs fan though he got stuck with the Leafs shirt.
When I think about my 47 years of Canadiens worship, three players, only, stand out. The Rocket, Le Gros Bill and The Flower. Maurice, Jean Beliveau and Guy Lafleur. This small group of three among I suppose thirty or more spectacular superstars who have played for my team. I won't get into the goalies, Ken Dryden (who has become a friend) , Gump, Bunny, Roy, et al. For Habs fans its how fast you skate; how little you care about anything but getting ahead of the other 10 skaters, not how many pucks you get in front of.
Guy looked fast standing still. Maurice looked fierce when speaking at banquets. Jean was calmest when things were most turbulent.
They are my heroes, as a Canadian. And a Canadiens fan.
They stirred most of a nation to big dreams, and the thought that you can come from Thurso, Three Rivers or Montreal Est and become a national hero.
For me, the ultimate Canadien was Guy, even though he was a falling star when he retired. He thrilled we fans for years a couple of times a week. I'm sure that Maurice would have found Guy lacking - would have thought he could have been more if only he had been more aggressive.
Ya know, it thrills me to remember these times. I thank the Ceeb for this show. Even the retrospective of Abby Hoffman as an 8 year old hockey superstar in a boys league in St. Catharines.
Hockey keeps me forever young.

Warming Scientists? Get Your Story Straight...
WASHINGTON -- The Earth's temperature has climbed to levels not seen in thousands of years, warming that has begun to affect plants and animals, researchers said yesterday.
A report in the latest issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences said the recent warming has brought global temperature to a level within about one degree Celsius of the maximum temperature of the past million years.
The Earth has been warming at a rate of 0.2 degrees C per decade for the last 30 years, according to the research team at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York.
Okay guys which is it? 30 years, thousands of years or a million years?
Where was the thermometer that Fred and Barney used a million years ago? In the Smithsonian? Is the granite indicator needle stuck on the temperature of the day?
Maybe the temperature started increasing when these scientists got out of grad school and started spouting their baloney.

Ryder Cup Bias
A person can love America without liking their media.
Americans are brave, friendly, generous, honest (overall), fun, hardworking, etc.
But their media is as biased and yellow as pravda or the ceeb.
Yesterday, after Darren Clarke had chipped in to beat Tiger Woods just before Paul Casey got an Acey to seal his match, the Golf Channel's comment was "from the sublime to the ridiculous".
Of course, if the Yanks had pulled this magic off, the comment would have been something like "from the amazing to the heroic".
I know this post doesn't fit here, but I'm afraid to start a sports blog. Way too serious and might be harmful to my health (Leaf fans are dangerous doncha know).

Humans Have Become Grief Junkies
Looking at the Ceeb this morning I am reminded how shallow our species is and how much we wallow and try to make ourselves as individuals feel special.
Dawson College is festooned with flowers, crowded with sad looking kids trying to get in front of a camera to show how compassionate they are (or to complain against the authorities).
Reminds me of the millions (billions) who were in great pain after Diana, estranged wife of the heir to the realm but contemporary celebrity, got in a car with a drunk driver and died in a car accident.
Media loves grief. They, like their interviewees, wallow in it. It makes a great story.
Grief is individual. No person can share this with you unless they were in the same circle with the deceased.
Dropping flowers or teddy bears at a media appointed grief site, and mugging for the camera doesn't show how compassionate a person is, it shows how trivial they are.
And how much they want to be noticed.

Weather Pimps Disappointed in Ernesto

The NB/NS Media were all atwitter the last few days celebrating Hurricane Katrina, showing the tragedies, pointing fingers, warning all viewers of what to do it another hurricane hits (notwithstanding the fact that there's been one in fifty years).
Now the US pimps that rely on things like big winds to prove their Climate Change forecasts (and to get their mugs on TV) are devastated that Ernesto didn't at least knock out power and preferably leave at least 10,000 homeless allowign those wide angle shots of Alligator Alley filled both ways with weather refugees.

Briefly a hurricane Sunday, Ernesto lost much of its punch crossing mountainous eastern Cuba. The storm crossed the Florida Straits with top sustained winds of 72 km/h and was moving through Florida overnight as a weak tropical storm. That was good news for Florida, the victim of seven hurricanes since 2004. (But bad news for the pimps. ed)

Maritime Notebook - Miscellaneous Ramblings
Lemon returns to his land of birth to hopefully shed his cynicism. He is unsuccessful...
Driving toward Nova Scotia from Saint John Airport, I had the opportunity to listen to CBC Radio, with some difficulty because of a weak signal. Maybe the CBC signal is purposefully weak in the east to make sure that not many of those way sensible Maritimers can listen to the bafflegab commonly spouted thereon. They would have no part of it, by jeezus.
Did catch a typical arts program that asked two guests to review their favorite romance films. The female guest focussed on "Fried Green Tomatoes" which this commentator thankfully has been able to avoid. The wonderful thing about this film, according to the CBC guest was the lesbian relationship between the two principal actors, Jessica Tandy and Kathy Bates. (Now I'd love to see them too writhe and wrestle in cooking oil... ed.) Little did the maximum part of the thin audience for this picture know that this was the point of Fanny Flagg's story, 'cause of course it was smothered in the plot to avoid mass demonstrations by Lesbian Haters, I guess.
The male commentator waxed poetic on "Brokeback Mountain". Nuff said.
I guess "As Good as it Gets", "To Have and Have Not", "Adam's Rib", of anything featuring Gable/Lombard, Hepburn/Tracey, Bogart/Bacall, et al weren't worthy of consideration. I wonder why?
Evidently fraudsters are swooping in on unsuspecting Maritimers. They must be because the banks are on least an Amber if not orange alert.
I went into a Scotiabank this morning in a mid-sized town to do my basic by-weekly banking, and what takes two minutes with an absolute stranger in a never visited branch in Toronto took twenty in the Maritime version. They needed three signatures.
I was not alone in my waitful agony. One woman was buying US twenties with Canadian twenties, and the teller checked each bill for counterfeit-ness and again, needed two signatures. Brings to mind the old joke about the Toronto counterfeiter who mistakenly made $15 bills. Rather than waste them, he drove to the Maritimes to trade them in. He was successful, but his change was in $7 and $8 dollar bills.
Maybe he's back at work.
Everything and everybody down here works at glacier speed. People stop in middle of the road to talk about, well, nothing. Same stuff they talked about the day before and day before. Every day down here is Groundhog Day. Quick call Bill Murray. Maritimers are so distant in all ways from celebrities that its all they can talk about - Britney, Madonna, et al. Kids do manage to dress like rappers, tho.
A right hand turn is a major effort for drivers down here, they check all four ways, look out for pedestrians, check all mirrors. Never with a cell phone in hand. And these are the 16 year old boys driving their souped up Checy Cavaliers on deserted PEI red mud roads.

I guess "As Good as it Gets", "To Have and Have Not", "Adam's Rib", of anything featuring Gable/Lombard, Hepburn/Tracey, Bogart/Bacall, et al weren't worthy of consideration. I wonder why?
Evidently fraudsters are swooping in on unsuspecting Maritimers. They must be because the banks are on least an Amber if not orange alert.
I went into a Scotiabank this morning in a mid-sized town to do my basic by-weekly banking, and what takes two minutes with an absolute stranger in a never visited branch in Toronto took twenty in the Maritime version. They needed three signatures.
I was not alone in my waitful agony. One woman was buying US twenties with Canadian twenties, and the teller checked each bill for counterfeit-ness and again, needed two signatures. Brings to mind the old joke about the Toronto counterfeiter who mistakenly made $15 bills. Rather than waste them, he drove to the Maritimes to trade them in. He was successful, but his change was in $7 and $8 dollar bills.
Maybe he's back at work.
Everything and everybody down here works at glacier speed. People stop in middle of the road to talk about, well, nothing. Same stuff they talked about the day before and day before. Every day down here is Groundhog Day. Quick call Bill Murray. Maritimers are so distant in all ways from celebrities that its all they can talk about - Britney, Madonna, et al. Kids do manage to dress like rappers, tho.
A right hand turn is a major effort for drivers down here, they check all four ways, look out for pedestrians, check all mirrors. Never with a cell phone in hand. And these are the 16 year old boys driving their souped up Checy Cavaliers on deserted PEI red mud roads.
I'll probably need to add to this. Hope none of my family check my site...

Trudeau the Younger Shows Marxism While Praising Fidel
Sasha Trudeau has made a film praising the Palestinians while slamming Israelis, now he compares Castro to Mandela... Puhleeze...
The difference, of course, is that Nelson spent 27 years in solitary confinement while Fidel has spent 47 imprisoning all of his people in an island prison, executing those who go too far, and starving the rest. Castro is a criminal of the highest order.
But maybe his reign describes what Canada would be like if Trudeau really had his way.
He lives to learn and to put his knowledge in the service of the revolution. For Fidel, revolution is really a work of reason. In his view, revolution, when rigorously adopted, cannot fail to lead humanity towards ever greater justice, towards an ever more perfect social order. [...]Who will rid us of these Trudeau poppinjays?
With the possible exception of Nelson Mandela, already well into retirement, Fidel is the last of the global patriarchs. Reason, revolution and virtue are becoming more and more distant and abstract concepts. We will perhaps never see another patriarch.

CBC Uses Professorial Buffoon to Comment on Afstan War
One would expect that the CBC would hire someone who knows something (anything) about the topic that they are asked to comment upon.
Today on the Afstan WAR, their talking dimwit wanted to know "Who are We At War With?", "What War Are We Fighting?", "What is The Mission?"
Idiot. Her CV follows.
We are fighting people who wish Afstan to remain a Taliban, fundamentalist, terrorist supporting shithole where women are killed by mullahs after they are raped, or raped because of a sexual misdeed of her brother, or are stoned to death becaus eof sexual preference.
We are at war to establish Afstan as a functioning democracy and we are doing this with a collection of other freedom loving countries who make up something called NATO.
The War will be over when there is a safe democracy, ruled by the people, and respecting all human rights.
What credentials in the following CV provide this moonbat the right to even comment on this war, (other than in a blog of course).

One More Diff Between Canada & The US??

The Court of Appeals, in a 4-2 decision, said New York's marriage law is constitutional and clearly limits marriage to between a man and a woman.
Any change in the law would have to come from the state legislature, Judge Robert Smith said. "We do not predict what people will think generations from now, but we believe the present generation should have a chance to decide the issue through its elected representatives," Smith wrote.
Gov. George Pataki's health department and state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's office had argued that New York law prohibited issuing licences to same-sex couples. The state had prevailed in lower appeals courts.

Nancy Silverman is the Bomb?
I am a self-confessed Idol nut, for me the brand offers entertainment with the pathos of Euripides and the joy of Bach. I've been busy the last few weeks, yes, trying to overthrow a government, and haven't see much of the 2006 version. And with this group of idol attempters I'm kinda glad that I've had better things to do.
Not one performer in the single mens night and single womens night that I've caught offers a single participant that has even the p in performer. A really weak group of smiling pleasant untalented kids posing and strutting. And the judges are reading scripts that they have used in every previous season. Sorry to point out that Nancy, who seems to be a nice girl, isn't "The Bomb" as she was termed by the evil judge.
The whole show is the Bomb. She's kind of a bomblet.
And I'd really like to like it. Lemons Rating??
For Ben Mulroney keeping a smile through it all.
