Common Sense Reponse to Gore From Lomborg
Amid all the Noise - A Pile of Common Sense Found by Fred at Gay and Right.
Here is a summary of points made in NY Post Article:
AL GORE and the many people he has inspired on the global-warming issue have good will and great intentions. However, he has gotten carried away and come to show only worst-case scenarios. . .
In short, Gore's prescriptions would in effect present an obstacle to saving millions of lives. . .
Climate change is not the only issue on the global agenda, and actually one of the issues where we can do the least good first. . .
Yes, the media often carry far more dire descriptions of warming's consequences. Gore, for example: "We have just 10 years to avert a major catastrophe that could send our entire planet into a tail-spin of epic destruction involving extreme weather, floods, droughts, epidemics and killer heat waves beyond anything we have ever experienced." A fine phrase for such talk is "climate porn": This kind of language makes any sensible policy dialogue about our global choices impossible.

The 2007 U.N. report on the issue estimated that sea levels will rise a little over a foot during the rest of the century. This is not a trivial amount - but it is also not outside historical experience. Since 1850, we have experienced a sea level rise of about one foot, yet this has clearly not caused major disruptions. . .
THE current raft of policies that are either enacted or suggested to combat warming are costly but have virtually no effect. . . As the nearby chart shows, Kyoto - even if it had been successfully adopted by all signatories (including the United States), and fully adhered to throughout the century - would have postponed warming by just five years, at a cost of $180 billion a year. . .
There are many world problems - like HIV, malnutrition, trade barriers, malaria, lack of clean drinking water - where we can do immense amounts of good. It seem obvious to me that we should focus our attention and our big expenditures there first. . .
Kyoto . . . costs a lot now and does very little for the future.

Why do liberals have such hate?
Some of you may have clicked a link in a post a few days ago from a frequent commenter on Blogging Tories blogs from a guy named Jeff Davidson. Lemon, as CBL editor, has been always polite with Mr. Davidson in Davidson's sometimes trollish comments.
Ever since I read the post and comments on Jeff Davidson's blog, I have reviewed of other lefty blogs. Never posted or commented on any of them, but read what was there. I can not believe the hate and vitrol from commentators, directed towards PMSH or conservative bloggers in general. Who are these people? What do they do? Why are they so angry?

I have never come across a conservative blogger who has decided to spend their time going thru these non-Tory blogs and posting links and then ridiculing them for their values, beliefs, thoughts or likes and dislikes. They condemn anything and everything conservative, and ignore the broken promises, corruption, lies, lack of action on kyoto, trusts, and all the deficiencies of liberal govts or liberal mps. These libs continually mention, or brag, that over 60% of cdns did not vote for the conservatives, but conveniently forget that more than that didn't vote liberal either, in both elections with Paul Martin as leader. They seem to think that everything bad that has happened in Canada has happened since PMSH was elected. Of course they also blame Bush for all teh trouble in the world also.
How do they get away with it, must be because we don't visit their rubbish, but they sure visit the Blogging Tories. Maybe we have to start exposing them, one at a time. Go thru the comments and recognize the names. When they post on BT sites I am sure most of them are anonymous. Sort of like all the hooded terrorists out there, afraid to come out in the open, proving they are ashamed of themselves. The really scary thing about them is that they have the right to vote. Guess we should be thankful for small favors as they have no access to the PM's bathroom or they would complain on whether he does or doesn't put the seat down.

Lemon: The Grit Messes PMSH is Blamed For
The Liberal Party is like a rat - very difficult to corner and most dangerous when it has been so trapped.
The CPC has been the governing party now for 17 months. It came in with a very short list of platform priorities but since these were accomplished, has been forced to face the wrath of the Opposition, it's pet puppy media and various marxist imps, not for it's own mistakes and flubs, but for those of the previous governing Liberals!

Kyoto: A post at the Phantom today describes how the Liberal (and current Dion) plan would have been much more harmful for the environment than that of the CPC
Afstan Detainees - Damian Penny in May: Former prime minister Paul Martin gave approval almost two years ago to then-defence minister Bill Graham to negotiate a detainee transfer agreement with the Afghanistan government, according to government documents obtained by CanWest News Service.
Income Trusts - This had to be done, but the Liberals were too chicken to do it. Even "The Garth" supported Flaherty's action.
Native Land Claims - holdup on settling land claims is a product of the former Liberal government
Atlantic Accord - Martin Did it, and Dion Denied it.
RCMP Corruption - The cozy relationship between the RCMP and the Grits was reported here.

For two months the brawdcasts have been as dreery as a January day in Nunavut, except for the mid-day moon, starving dogs and poverty.
Duff - Flaherty wants equal share of pie, the Cadfather, John Crosbie, Bill (who is not gay) Graham resigns.
GRITS WANT BY-ELECTION TO GET RAE IN THE HOUSE!!!
There has been suspicion that Bob Rae wasn't too glad about maybe waiting until Fall 09 to run as an MP in Toronto Centre. Thoughts that he might wish to step down to move on with his life.
Now this tip from Duffy.
Once more, Grits do something to help their friends. Ohhhh to be a Liberal. Just for one day. (Cause I couldn't stand to lose more than one night's sleep.
No word from the other candidate in Toronto Centre, Mark Warner. Rumour is that he's been canvassing hard since February. He's a very solid candidate - world respected trade lawyer, active community volunteer, attended World's AIDS Conference.
Roddy Macdonald whining on Newman about wanting more money. He and The Newfus Doofus really want to be Grit MPs in the old days - double dip - collect pensions and get appointed to a UN Committee in Geneva. I am embarrassed to be a Maritimer and feel disgraced. They want to keep their jobs and continue to collect welfare.
Duff covers graduation ceremony for Al Qaeda suicide bombers (He didn't get his honourary degree there) - notes no-fly list - do they need to be put on the list? Doh. I hope CSIS will carefully program the faces into facial recognition systems. NDP Old Cromartin, is NOT worried about this happening. Says he's more worried about home-grown... Terrorists or Pot, Joe?
Steffi Dion says he's ready to wear pantaloons to win, and that there should be right away a by-election. Assumption that Bob Rae will win - Steffi says he'd like to have someone else in the House to stab him in the back other than Iggy. Says that Harper underminding his himage. Seems he's doing pretty good on his own. Want to know the music of the language so taking Hinglish lessons. Says Mr. 'Arper would be much better dan me to be announcer for Fox Nedwork. Predicts he will win all the debates. Mr. Arper beetwayed the people and some other stuff I couldn't understand. Twust will be key. Says he never broke his word (let's fact check this one - how about on the Fiscal Imbalance?? He stared out okay then became unintelligible again.

Give up on winning any more seats on the East Coast - there aren't enough to matter anyway.

How Did I Miss the Horton's Sign Story?
Yesterday I read our local paper and read the small item re the sign on a Tim Horton's window, in Lethbridge. I thought of posting on it and then figured it was a non story. Boy, was I wrong.
Today it is in the g&m.
A national boycott of Tim Hortons is being called for. Some of the comments are vicious. It was done as a joke, a very bad joke, by a teenager. Management has punished the guilty party and apologized to everyone that may have been insulted.
There is more outrage against this teenager than there is against the teens who murdered a student or stabbed a BC youth, or attacked a ref or killed a taxi driver.
I wouldn't be surprised to see it brought up in the House of Commons by the ndp as proof that Alberta is full of racists and evidence the govt will do nothing for the natives. Too bad the g&m didn't feel it was important to publicize all the evidence re the sponsorship and adscam scandals as it was developing, or to tell the truth re the algore scam or the liberals inaction for years on the kyoto scam.

Clueless in Alberta re Carbon Credits, MaryT
I have received a 4 page pamphlet, from the Prairie Policy Center titled Carbon Credit Trading.
This is basically for farmers. Did you know that Canada has no federally approved carbon credit market?

I have read this pamphlet, and I am more clueless than before. But, from now on, when I go to meetings etc on this, I will ask the speaker questions like, what is CFI (no it is not a tv series)
or CCX, and what is the minimum carbon credits one can buy-answer 10,000 tonnes of carbon (equal to about 75,000 acres). How many farmers have that many acres which are over 100 sections of land. Imagine the emissions from farming all that land.
Run out and get yours now to avoid having to use those stupid light bulbs.

Rambling thoughts
In the interest of seeming to be different, the Dion Liberals are appearing schizophrenic - very busy reversing positions on many laws and legislation that they put in place, in the first place. Examples include the Anti-Terrorist act, along with being a leader in the Afganistan mission and the detainee agreement.
But also, it looks like they are reversing fields on the hate they have for everything American. During the Chretien/Martin years the IN thing was to be anti-US. If the US anything it was wrong and our candy-assed liberal leaders bent over backwards to do the opposite. Iraq and Kyoto are two obvious examples.
When did things change? Because now, the Liberals are selectively choosing to look toward Americans for leadership, even encouraging their involvement. Providing it fits with their weak-kneed philosophy, of course.
They are cheering on an 85 yr old grandmother from the states who's taking on Syncrude.
They love a crtain chubby ex-president who has all the answers for Canada when he could not even get his on government to sign Kyoto.
He even voted AGAINST IT!
Good for him, because while the US pople didn't want him as President, he has Canadian Liberals who seem to love him.
I wonder how many trees have been cut down to produce Gore's book, how many tons of energy used and how much pollution produced by printing and distribution. And it is replacing the Bible in hotel rooms.

Ralphie Hedgehog can find nothing but bad in the CPC government record. Yup. Bad, bad government - even my hippy neighbour likes Harper. Libby Davies is in her mu-mu. Peter Van Loan should be in a mu-mu.

Canadian Leadership to Meet the Challenge? I know that Steffi is off Broadway (without a neatness aide) learning how to lead and inspire. But really....

Harper and Baird Getting Hammered for Kyoto Kost Report
I think all observers, pro and con, were waiting for the GOC to issue an impact analysis of the economic effects of meeting Kyoto targets.
Interestingly, one of the reports showing the potential costs was issued by the Chief Economist of the TD Bank, who was previously famous for being Paul Martin's Assistant Deputy Minister of Finance. He succeeded Grit mouthpiece John MacCallum in the TD job.
Both The Sun and The Post hammered both Baird and Harper for revealing what the ultimate economic downside might be of complying with the program.
Not surprisingly, Kooky Suzuki blasted the report, saying "the government is ignoring the cost of ignoring climate change. First of all, let's stop listening to the goddamn economists," he said.
We'll forgive the fact that Suzuki, as a socialist, likely never has had respect for those who deal in the science of resources. So that's not a surprise.
But these critics of the critics, the deniers of the deniers have never made any attempt to rationalize their arguments as far as the perceived cost to the environment of not implementing a climate change strategy. They continue to spout off that sea levels will increase by 20 feet, that Manhattan will be come a scuba diver's paradise, and that "Dune" will become a documentary. None of Al Gore's public presentations have ever reflected the much more likely effects, nor on any possible beneficial effects of Global Warming, nor any consideration on economic costs.
This should be appreciated as basic dialectic. Thesis and Antithesis. Baird and his people have no responsibility to argue Suzuki's position for him. The climate freaks went nutty with their climate forecasts so they're getting nutty stuff thrown back at them. They started it.
This case is different than most arguments, though - usually the truth is in the middle. The danger here is that either extreme bears unacceptable costs and there is likely not a middle ground upon which both sides of the argument can stand.
